Light bulbs power Venezuela out of electricity crisis

It might sound like the start of a bad joke, but how many Venezuelan soldiers does it take to change a light bulb?
When the country is in the midst of its worst electricity crisis for 50 years, the answer is lots. In fact, an entire army's worth.

On the Fuerte Tiuana military base in Caracas, there is a warehouse full of light bulbs. Hundreds of boxes of Firefly energy-efficient bulbs are sitting in vast stacks, ready to be loaded onto waiting trucks by the troops.

Well I suppose it's one way of doing it. I just have visions of them turning over the house looking for contraband filiment bulbs.

no, I just like putting up funny/interesting stories up on AH.

If others don't agree, they'll sink quickly without trace.

I think it would depend on which army.

The US army would would send 10,000 men, 40 tanks and 10 helicoptors. Completely destroy your house but change your light bulb. You would then be contracted to buy your electricity from a US electricity company for the next 25 years.

If it was the British army, they would send 20 men without realising what the job entailed, meaning that all of have the wrong equipment and the bulb would be a £1500 ellison screw bulb rather than the £2 bayonet cap that was needed.

If it was the French army, they would drop the bulb and run away as soon as you opened the front door.

And if it was the Irish army, they would love to pop round and help you, once they have finished their tea break, but unfortunately they only have a few bulbs and they are all old and obsolete.

If men with guns stood outside my door demanding to change my light bulbs, I'd let them.

If the army wants to give me free stuff, then they are welcome to drop around whenever they like.

Even more so. How often do you see cows with guns? You dunno what they're like, I wouldn't want to offend them and say now. Who knows what they're capable of.

Will they mop my kitchen floor while they're at it?

If so, then yes, yes I would let them do it.

I watch it every now and then. It's kindof a catchy tune and is usually good for a laugh.

(Yes, there is a song 'Cows with guns')
