Have a pavilion dv2000 and it recently started to knock itself off as if i plugged it out and then starts back up again displaying a black screen with "windows did not shut down properly, do you wish to continue". its not a loose battery or connection and does it even when on a solid surface.
    any ideas??

    Hi bitemybanger,

When did you buy it? There is a common problem with the HP Pavilion dv2000/6000 ranges that the processor starts overheating causing it to shutdown. I had a HP Pavilion dv6000 (cant remember which model exactly) with the same problem. I work for an independent IT company in Co. Mayo. We sold bucket loads of these particular models and alot have come back with the same problem. The newer ones dont seem to have the same problem, but we sell the HP Compaq ranges now.

Anyway, my point is you need to get the laptop stripped apart and get someone to put thermal paste on the processor and clean out the fan. (Dont try it yourself if you've never done it before!) That should sort it, if not i'd get onto HP - even though its out of warranty - it is a common problem and demand a repair - you may not get anywhere but its worth a shot. Ive dealt with them a good bit, be nice at first and if you don't get anywhere ask for a supervisor and stand you're ground.

    regards,
