Online tax refund

    Hi there

I rang up the Revenue on Thursday as I couldn't request a balancing statement due to claiming DFSA income, and this needing to be updated on their system. Turns out I'm eligible for a €550 tax refund (!) so they said they'd lodge it directly into my bank account as they have all my details.
I'm just curious as to how long this takes usually?

    Thanks

    L

Oh really? That quick? That's pretty impressive, hopefully the same will apply for me :)

Can you always apply for it online? I end up paying emergency tax rates every year because of silly casual work procedures and so send off my P60 and wait about two months for a cheque in the post. Do you know if everyone can apply online instead? Thanks.

hi all, i was jus looking through the revenue website, seen if i was eligable to any tax refunds, made redundant last march and started back in collage in sept to get my eng, degree. anyways im an electrician by trade for the last five years. was working for a large contractor, remembered one guy saying that i should be eligable for a tax relief on tools and equipment(expenses). could i claim this back for the last four years????? it would be a nice little wind fall if i was entitled to it as things are tight at the minute. works out at bout 153 per year.

any idea how i should go about it if i am??

I worked partially in income tax for a taxation consultantcy last year, and have never heard of this expense but think you should check it out on the Revenue website or give your local Revenue a call using PPS Locator on their homepage. I know there is certain expense in other industries so you may in fact be in luck. In addition, you can obtain credits from previous years though it depends on the credit as to the time period.

Also, I would recommend everyone to register with the Revenue PAYE Online if this is their area of taxation as it is a whole lot easier than ringing up the Revenue 90% of the time. I spent most of last year dealing with the Revenue as part of my job and it is a nightmare if your not sure about what your talking about or if they are just in a bad mood!
