Anyone know what a small plane is doing over north mayo for the last number of days. It appears to be doing many passes over the same area constantly for about 4 days. Its a small plane with orange nose, tail & wingtips.

I suspect it may have something to do with the gas pipeline (if its in that area).
That or some surveying going on.

Indeed I heard a survey aircraft on the Shannon frequency yesterday. Might be the same one. No doubt someone somewhere got a picture of it.

Do you know what approx height it was at?
We've been doing some low level stuff over the last week.
But our bus is all white underneath - could be the competition...

Growler, thought you guys might be out this week. Perfect weather for it. I got some great shots from 10k with my phone. I think I'll set up a rival outfit:

As for the mystery aircraft. Well over on the fly in Ireland forum someone mentioned seeing an aircraft at Knock. D-FOLI in which seems to fit the description. Supposedly a PZL M18. That's an agricultural aircraft though.

No the bus with the white belly referred to by Growler is the Ordnance Survey aircraft. The Aztec.

The plane, a Cessna Caravan, is carrying out a marine bathymetric lidar survey (mapping water depth) as part of the ongoing INFOMAR Programme, the national marine mapping programme. This is a government funded initiative to provide updated information on all Ireland's offshore areas. see ww.infomar.ie for more.

The areas of Blacksod Bay and Broadhaven are among 26 Priority Bays being mapped over the period 2006-2016. Lidar has previously been completed in Bantry, Dunmanus, Galway, Clw Bay, Killala, part of Blacksod Bay, Mulroy Bay and Lough Foyle (N).

This year it is scheduled to take place in the above Bays as well as Lough Swilly, Manin Bay and Lough Foyle (S)

    Hope this solves the mystery.

Parked for the evening on the cargo ramp at EIKN, ya gotta love the exhaust deflector.
Nice aircraft, looks to be in great shape.

The Cessna Caravan is being operated by Luxembourg based CAE Aviation

http://www.cae-aviation.com/ on contract to the Lidar company.

Yes VAND was operating out of Sligo for a couple of days and then back at base last weekend and yesterday. Perfect skydiving and surveying weather at the moment. Would love to get my hands on a 208.
