HRV extract/intake Grill

I have placed 2 steel grills on the gable of my house where the HRV will be extracting/intaking.

We had the HRV installer over the other day to amend a couple of things before the plasterers start slabbing.
He commented the plastic grills were far better and the steel ones were no good. He left 2 pvc louvres for us to put in.

Has anyone heard anything like this before?
As far as I am concerned they are both simply grills and will let the air in/out just fine.

Also, I'm wondering why was this not mentioned to me in the first place and the grills given to me then? I'd rather not have to pull them out and redo the plaster around them if possible.

Just bear in mind that you will probably want to have some way of fitting an additional insect grille in summer on the intake side.
