Hi, I am buying a second hand van from England, a Peugeot Partner & I am wondering if I can tax it as a commercial van? What are the requirements to do that?

It will first have to be VRT'd and registered, then DOE'd, then taxed.

As a matter of interest, did you price up similar vans over here first? VRT is usually what kills irish cars, but seen as VRT on a van is fifty quid, I'd doubt you'd get it much cheaper in the UK.

Hi haven't looked at vans here, my brother lives in England & wants to get rid of his so I was hoping to take if off him. The price of taxing my car is crippling (€614), so I am hoping I could tax the van cheaper.

You should contact the tax office about that. They were bringing in a new tax systems for vans, if you were not registered for vat and were going to be using it for personal use you would have to tax it at the car price, ie 1.9 litre approx €600. And it would be exempt from DOE AND NCT. Then there's the commercial system €275 for the year and you have to Doe it. I think someone posted something before about it.
