Forget about online quotes, they are designed for low risk catagories which an 18 year old male is not. Get out the goldenpages and ring insurance companies and insurance brokers directly.

BTW its always a good idea to get insurance quotes on a car prior to buying it otherwise you will either have to pay the high premium or sell it again.

As the others are saying here, online quotes will do you no good whatsoever, ring a few of the big companies and also a few local brokers. I'd imagine you'd get a cheaper quote than €4000 somewhere if you do enough shopping around. My first insurance was with QuinnDirect as they were the cheapest I could find at the time. Axa had quoted me roughly €3500 and Quinn were €2200 so it was well worth a bit of research! Good luck with the search!

I'd second that - I am with britton currently, just checked my details with Chill (23 yo male) and they are about €100 cheaper. Pity my insurance isnt up till november :(

NB I have no affiliation with either company

OP try chill. When my renewal came up in December they were one of the cheapest I came across. 23yo Male, F/L 1.4 Golf 1yr NCB.

Cheapest I got was from an independent broker, Aaran Insurances in Harolds Cross. I dont work for either company :p

If you get a policy from Aviva, either directly or through a broker you can do the Provisional Ignition course. Its about €70, but can wipe up to 40% off your premium depending on how well you do in the test

Edit: I used to work for a motor insurance broker, but the recession etc. etc.

    Try insure.ie.

I got my first policy with them last year on a 1.4 focus on a provisional licence for 1600 TPFT and they were the cheapest after ringing everywhere. Best to ring them because they gave me a lower price than what they quoted me online.

    Phone no is 01-2932300

i had one of those boxes from axa for my first year and still paid 3k insurance. they dont do them anymore and im not sure of any companies that do. your best bet might be to find a company with a high excess list excessdirect i think thats the name.

Thanks but insure.ie will not quote me as the car is jap import and it says on it somewhere there that it asumes the car is not an import

Poor choice of car for your first, if you can you'd probably save thousands by selling it and buying something that's not imported and that doesn't have a bad rep from boy racers.
