    Hi All,

Looking for a bit of advice on what to do.

Basically I'm teaching myself VB with Visual Studio 2008 Express and I would like to either...

    1) Upgrade my T60 cpu from a C Duo T2400 1.83GHz to a C2 Duo T7600 2.33GHz (Euro 200-250)

    2) Just get a new desktop (Euro 400-600)

I suppose I need to know if the C2 Duo cpu will be enough of an upgrade to allow my T60 to run it fast enough or if I'd be better off just getting a new desktop...

    tks folks

Is your model of laptop specc'd to take a speed bump like that. What I mean is can your laptop dissipate the extra heat that will be given out by the new processor.

I'd look into that before deciding what to do

Yes mobo is spec'ed to take the T7600, but it is the limit the mobo can take. Both CPUs are 945 chipset. And I've read numerous posts stating that they have done the upgrade on a T60 / P.

So are the speed gains justifiable? There is no real point upgrading if I only get 10-20% increase in performance.

    In my opinion no.

That €250 would be better spent towards a desktop.I presume you will be building a desktop, since you've been talking about about changing laptop CPU's.

You get get an i3 + EVGA H55 combo with 2GB DDR3 for €246 on Komplett.Comes with onboard video,so if you dont need high end video you dont need to shell out for a graphics card.Get another kit of of the ram supplied with the pack to bring your total up to 4GB and you should be set !

Tks for the info... I figured the speed gains might not be worth it but just needed to confirm.

Actually I was looking into building earlier as I swore I would never buy a Dell.

    Tks for your help :)
