If You Had To Pick A Crewcab For General Farm/Everyday Use Etc What One Would You Choose And Why…

I Like Shape & 6 Speed Box Of The D40 Navara But I Would Have To Go For The Toyota Hilux

i have an 06 navara 6 speed, n find dat its a very highly geared jeep, find it reasonably gud to tow but can often stall in first gear if not givin plenty revving, which makes this quite hard on the clutch. i hav heard dat plenty lads have problems with cluthes going in these. also have to add that they are a very comfortable jeep to drive.

    its a no brainer, HILUX

I did drive a few navara's but although i found it nicer machine to drive than the hilux i felt it lacked the quality feel,
the floating flywheel gives alot of bother on navara's and that even if you never towed anything...
the hilux do give problems with injectors too...
but i think the hilux would have a better resale value too..

was looking at a '06 l200 warrior too, beautiful machine but decided against it due to it being very hard on diesel...

I've got a 3 litre D-Max and it would pull a Hi-lux around the yard for sport. All the Toyotas are too highly geared for trailer work, I had an 02 3 litre Trooper before the D-max and it would pull better than an 08 Land Cruiser. The L200 is fine, but you need an acre to turn it around in and the 4 wheel drive can be troublesome. The Navara isn't a great machine to tow either, again it's too highly geared.

Think you're a bit out there on the L200. They have never had any issues with the 4wd?? The old l200 have a poor turning circle allright, but the new l200 have the best turning circle in their class. Their gearing is just right for towing - you don't hear about a lot of clutch problems with them - most are driver caused.

Most importantly is their engine reliability. Mitsubishi engines go forever. Look at carzone, you will regularly see mitsubishi engines with over 200000 miles on them. While the current D-Max engines seem reliable enough, Isuzu have a history of poor engines in their 4x4's and cars. This included the Rodeo on which the current D-Max is based, the 3.0 trooper and some of the early 1990 troopers.

This is the reason why Isuzu cars never really sold in Ireland when they launched them in the 1990's. While they were lovely solid cars, their engines did not have the build quality and they were forever needing small parts replaced like bearings and seals. History has a lot to do with the amount of vehicles a manufacturer can shift in one country. That's why Toyota is a best seller in 4x4's. For me, my mitsubishi was cost effective in comparison. I've had both Mitsubishi's and Iszuz's in the past and I bought the Mitsubishi based on my own experience and comparison.

why do be people put up hilux are crap or navara are crap ...is it just because you have the opposit in your drive....

We had a navara good machine but had quite a bit of touble with rear diffs

we also had a hilux and again a reliable machine but to highly geared for pulling a load

a izuzu dmax pulling a bowser is like a 99 combo van 1.7

l200 - havnt had a thing happen it yet , pulled a mengale 40n from wicklow to sligo with it, hard on diesel is true but nearly all 4X4's are , if your doin 60mph it revs out to far to be economiacl

A lot of the trouble with the 3 litre Trooper engines was down to poor servicing. I put 130K miles on mine and the only problem I had was the injectors, which were replaced under warranty. Kept it serviced every 6K miles and kept the right oil in her, no problems. She'd still be going if it wasn't for the missus coming into contact with an icy corner at high speeds and deciding she'd have better traction on the roof...! The D-Max engine is based on the old 3.1 Trooper engine, it's the same as the Isuzu truck engine and is pretty much bullet proof. I always found the Isuzu much better value than the Toyota, which is a grand machine but way over-priced on the second-hand market.
