    I'm looking to get a new HDD for my PS3 as I only have a 40GB PS3
Can someone give me their opinion on the best one to buy in preformance and value. Thanks

You need a 2.5" sata drive. Post here which one you decide to get as some aren't standard and won't fit. The main thing that will affect price is the capacity, I wouldn't worry too much about the performance of the drive with regards speed as you probably won't notice a difference. A good 500GB drive will cost under €100. A 320GB under €80.

Here is the 500GB HD I put into my PS3 a while ago. Only €68.

    Be careful with the screws...

Shows how out of the loop with regards pricing I am. Those samsung drives are pretty good as well.

WD Scorpio 320GB 2,5"5400RPM, SATA https://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=343402 i got this one from komplett for 59 euro because it was suitable and the reviews were specifically ps3 related - i dont see it on the website now but u could ask them on the komplett forum on boards to see if they have any instock or will have. i installed this without any trouble whatsoever, the only difficult bits were remembering to go to the pound shop to buy the tiny screwdrivers and transferring the data across. i would highly recommend using an external hdd to back up first - i started by saving all my files to usb and move them to laptop. it took forever to sort out. the most important thing in doing this is that some game saves are protected and they wont let u copy them to usb so back up is definitely the way to go. also if u are into your trophies, make sure u sync them before u do it. there is a lot of videos online walking thru the process btw too.

the only other thing i would mention as something to look out for when choosing the hard drive, is that when i researched this online before doing it, there was a lot of recommendations NOT to choose anytrhing bigger than 320 gb or a higher speed than 5400 rpm as it is reported that the larger capacity and higher speed has a knock on effect with the performance of other things within the ps3 - i.e. with a higher rpms, the internal fans dont work as efficiently and it could lead to overheating. Iam not a techie so i dunno if this is true, but trust me with a 320 gig u will have buckets of storage if what u are used to is 40 gb. hope that helps and best of luck

Thats because the model he linked to is not stocked anymore. They don't have the 320gb 54000rpm model anymore only a 320gb 72000rpm instead.

I don't know about putting 72000rpm drives in a PS3 but I'd stick to the slower 54000rpms just to be safe.

Went for the 250GB 5400rpm model, should be enough space for movies and games and all the add-ons that come with it, also got an enclosure case for my old HDD
