I'm trying to recieve RTE etc. via DTT. I have a sony KDL-40W4500 which is receiving rte 1 and rte 2 on anologue (picture quaility not too bad) but not TV3 or TnaG from clermont carn. When I try tuning in DTT i don't receive any signal. Can anyone suggest what I'm doing wrong?

TV3 and TG4 are UHF on analogue. DTT is also UHF.

Sounds like you dont have a UHF aerial.

I have a 10 element UHF Contract Aerial (like the one below), I was hoping this would do.

Where is your location? Are you far from Clermont Carn?

Strange you are only getting RTE1 and RTE2, but not TV3 and TG4 on analogue. Analogue UHF frequencies for Clermont Carn (CC) are RTE1 - 52, RTE2 - 56, TV3 - 66 and TG4 - 68. I believe wideband aerials aren't the best near the ends of the UHF frequency spectrum. More knowledgeable posters in the forum can advise you on this.

A UHF group C/D aerial indicated by green plastic plugs is usually used to pick up CC transmissions. Black plugs indicate wideband - WB, as shown in your link. But its strange nonetheless you arent getting TV3 and TG4.

CC signals are vertically polarised so your aerial should be positioned like this:

Have you it outside or inside? Plus check all your connections too. Have you tried manual tuning (available in the digital setup menu) with the TV? DTT from Clermont Carn is on channel 53.

I'm in the south meath area, about 40 miles to the south but we've always got our signal from carn. I've tried the aerial in vert and hor positions with little sucess. I'll check the connections again tomorrow. The aerial is outside. Thanks for the reply.

RTE1 and 2 are on UHF from CC as well

Thats a fair distance from CC. How about your neighbours? Where are their aerials pointing? All at CC? Not getting TV3 & TG4 reception is still interesting too.

Yes all pointing at CC. When i try tunning in DTT I get a no signal response, yet when i flick down the digital channels i get info like channel name and for some radio stations i get prog info. Analogue reception for rte1 and network 2 are quite good. The aerial has green tabs like you suggested and all connections look ok.

Seems like you have a group C/D aerial up alright then. Just wondering are your neighbours using mast head amps to boost their reception?

Also it seems you have stored some digital channels. What are these? RTE, TV3 etc?

RTE 1 etc, no picture or sound, just channel name. Not sure about neighbours using a booster.

Bit of a mystery this. If you are getting decent analogue then you should be getting decent DTT. What frequencies are you receiving RTE off on analogue ?

No sound on radio channels either ?

You could try going into country setup from the start setting it to Ireland and go through the tuner setup again.

But it does sound like either an aerial amplifier problem.

No sound on the radio stations, tv set for ireland. What do i need to boost the signal?

Im having the same problem with my Sony 32EX500.
I can actually get RTE1, Setanta, some religious channel and city tv but nothing else except the program guide.

I suspect auto tune isnt working. What network ID (NTL, Dublin) and frequency should I be searching on?

Tomco You are not having the same problem. The OP is trying to receive DTT. You obviously have an NTL cable connected to your TV, not an aerial. Are you trying to receive DTT ? Plug out the NTL cable so and stick in an aerial.

Doseire, Before you go off buying a masthead amp. Try a philex slx1. You will pick up one on the cheap on ebay. They also sell them in the likes of maplin. Up to 14db gain adjustable. About €20 max.

    How to connect it etc.

It will boost the signal and stabilise it. It does sound like your aerial system is unstable. It loook like this. Your aerial downlead goes into the ant in and then your fly lead goes from the output to your TV slx1_aerial_amp.jpg

Thanks, I'll pick one up tomorrow and try it.

I tried the booster and no improvement.

It could be the DTT tests themselves thats causing your TV not to receive anything.

    See this thread: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055853128

As of this evening both my Sony TVs can't find anything from Clermont Carn on channel 53. Tried a digital manual tune. Another poster is reporting the same problem using a Sony TV with DTT from Spur Hill and Mullaghanish.
