Hi,was wondering if someone could help. long running sale of a piece of property between 4 partners one being an older family member of mine. One solicitor was agreed as carriage of sale. anyway the sale went through, this particular company just took a figure off the share of our family member without informing us or our solicitor of cost prior to taking it off, the amount we have been advised is massively over price (this plus our own fees aswell). We have made a complaint to the law society, the company in question is hammering us with paperwork at moment. it was suggested we get taxation done on this, does this cost money? The law society have said that they will wash their hands of it if we go down this road, or should we stay with the law society to conclusion and then taxation. if we go with taxation should we send both legal bills. Any help is much appreciated Thanks

Taxation is where an independent court officer (the taxing master of the high court) goes through the bill and sees if it was reasonable.

You nshould stick with the law Society. You can always go to taxation after, but it does not work the other way around. If the law Society set a figure that they think is reasonable, the firm can't look for a higher figure at taxation.
