Cramp

    Hi,
I wonder could any one comment on what caused my right calf muscle to threaten to cramp about ten kilometers into my spin this morning and then suddenly lock up.
I had eaten a breakfast of cereal and a banana and had done some stretching exercises before getting on the bike.I have High five energy source in the bottles and had been sipping away on that up to the time I got the cramp.
I stopped when I got the cramp and did some stretching to work the cramp out, I also took a gel which helped.I got back on the bike and took it easy for the rest of the spin. The muscle was sore but held up,but it threatened to cramp if I stood up on the peddles.
The bike I used this morning is fairly new and i'm still tweaking the saddle position (I moved the saddle forward about 1cm yesterday for comfort).I'm fairly fit and cycle regularly( not huge distances ,around 40 to 60 ks on average).
This does not happen very often but I do find that standing up on the peddles (even on my other bike) can make my calf muscles feel very tight verging on crampy.
Any comments on my diet or bike set up or your own experiences with cramp welcome.
    Regards Smalltalk

I would imagine this is the most likely culprit. It can take a while to get the position right, certainly takes me several spins on a new bike.

oh yeah murph, well wrapped up,did not leave home till 11 am, weather beautiful but still had lots of layers.

Blorg, would the problem indicate saddle too high or too low

Don't know really, it could be high low or forward back or the bars either, all these things affect your angles.

I don't cramp much myself but it occasionally happens, I wouldn't stress to much about it.

Just suggesting if it is a new position you are probably still working that out.

Whenever I get leg cramps, it's normally related to dehydration.
