Heard on the radio yesterday that Dublin city council are in negotiations with MacDonalds to rename O'Connell street to MacDonalds street in a multimillion euro sponsorship deal. If all goes well, other streets might follow.

"Hey, can you tell me where I can find McDonald's street?" Yeah, sure, just walk thru McFlurry drive, take a right at McChicken avenue and straight ahead.

Reminds me of Buenos Aires. You can get around that city by saying turn left at the mcdonalds, then right at kfc. walk past the 3 burger kings until you come to a pizza hut and it's at the intersection with the 4 mcdonalds on each corner.

Is this a case of someone hearing something which you might as well of heard on the bus and freaking out to get "the scoop" online? I'd sooner get my news off a taxi driver.

    Other Theoretical Suggestions:
    The GPO > The KFC
St. Stephen's Green > Ryanair Park (Sold in 2015 budget as part of Hangar Six resolution)
The IFSC > Oh wait, that was pimped out years ago...:P
Phoenix Park > The Coca Cola Field of Dreams
    Croke Park > 123.ie Arena

All verified by my taxi driver, after he said DCC was trying to poison his water supply and asked me why wouldn't I stay in Galway instead of taking Dublin jobs, but that's another story.... :)

I thought that every single road in Ireland was going to be re-named "Sh1t Street" and that all waterways would be re-named "Sh1t Creek"?

True but do you know how to get from O'Connell Street to Grafton Street without passing any pubs?

It's the Aviva stadium. Vivas was a health insurer that operated here a few years back. Health insurer sponsoring a sports stadium, yeah, good one!
I don't think this proposal is real.

It is. They were even talking about putting golden arches at each end of the street. ;)

This won't happen. No way could they be stupid enough to name a street after McDonalds. The greedy corporate ba*tards. I bet there will be a protest over this.

Wouldn't work cos' we don't have a grid system - the streets wouldn't follow a logical order. Even look at the lower half of Manhattan where the streets are all mish-mash and they've kept the historical names. Probably nothing to do with the grid but try numbering them!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,798 ✭✭✭✭DrumSteve

    only at 30kmph.

slow enough to take my order so.
