Civil Servants Work to Rule- Do you support it?

You know on Boards I hide out in the tax forum, go stalk some ladies pics over the the ladies lounge know your loungers and occasionally flute around politics and soccer.

I've sat back amused at the Civil Service unions huffing and puffing before Chrimbo before Biffo told them to take the perverbial hike.

I've sat through Union officials on Eamon Keane when I'm out driving bandying figures around that if reversed make a mockery of their stance. "2/3's of our members are on less than 100K, we're not highly paid." without realising that he is admitting that 1/3rd are earning over 100K - what other industry could say the same?

I see teachers and guards and nursing getting pay cuts that must suck when you are on the front line actually contributing to society day in day out and getting little thanks and less pay. I can understand their frustrations BUT

When the Revenue's work to Rule consists of not processing Income Levy Refunds I can't let that go without dragging it out of the pit of taxation and bringing it to the attention of the masses. Basically they are refusing to process the Income Levy refund which is only repayable if you are either in receipt of a medical card or earn less than 16K in the year. i.e FLAT Broke, they are punishing the most disadvantaged in our community as part of a pay protest? It would be ironic if it wasn't so bloody stupid.

Anyway, where do the Boardsies stand on the Civil Service work to rule - are there more effective ways to launch a protest or are they right to vamp it up. I've made my opinions known. I'd fire half of them and leave their pay alone.

EDIT_ Tried to attach a poll but my connection dropped- maybe an AH mod will be able to attach one for me. Ta.

Mr. Incognito; I'd fire half of them and leave their pay alone.

Sounds very simple, but Ireland needs simple ideas that work to get it out of the sh*t

    Keep the good ideas comming

Well I'm not impressed with this work to rule malarkey

I work in the private sector and have to deal with many Departments on a daily basis - in my eyes the CS has a problem with moral and isn't really well run. I've dealt with some wonderful folk, but alas with many slackers.
Boost up moral, slash the slackers, rid the over lapping Depts and try and play a proud part of rebuilding the country

I work for the H.S.E and the work to rule is a pain in the ass can't get in contact with anyone.

I feel lucky to have a job so I don't support it, anyway it's only the fat lazy fcukers who are in management that are enforcing it, the rest of us still have the families/clients/patients to deal with.

But I suppose that the further you move from the floor the more distant reality becomes

Ugh this is so annoying, it's taking forever to get me off emergency tax as I can't get through to anyone on the phone, only the automated line. Emergency tax on mimimum wage leaves me with very little money :(

Is it not the union leadership enforcing it? Why would management be in favour of a work-to-rule?

So people moaned dat dem civil servants do nothin in annyways, and now that they're working to rule they're finding out just what civil servants do.:pac:

Last time i had to deal with CS was to get me passport renewed just before this work to rule thing came in and the service was excellent, especially compared to what getting a passport was like ten years ago.

Civil Servants Work to Rule- Do you support it?

    NO

Some are hard working yes but i'm afraid theirs way too much slacking. I also hate the fact that it is nearly impossible to get fired in the CS and a complete lack of accountability for poor performance.

Anyway i haven't noticed any difference in their output.

I wonder if they'd tell all their members to go on all out strike if 1/3 of the over 100k people were let go or had their pay murdered.

You didn't think they cared for anybody but themselves did you?

    NO

    I do not support this.

To be quite honest, I just want all the CS to go on their all out strike, shutting down the country for a few days and get this sh!t over and done with.

This work to rule is going to cause a lot more damage than a strike and it is being done over a longer period. Whats to say this work to rule could go on for a year or more? To me, its a lot more crippling than a strike.

I'm just waiting to hear a story of how someone ended up dying because of this nonsense.

Those CS on the breadline and who actually do a good job have got my sympathy its the others than annoy me.
