They're showing the recent City Council 30kph debate on City Channel now. Gerry Breen saying he'll get "Eamon Gilmore to kick his(Montague's) ass" if the Chair "doesn't put some manners on him". Some really bizarre behemoths on that council.

As I posted on the other thread:
Video now online as a recording if anybody wants to view what was a quite heated exchange.

    http://www.dublincity.public-i.tv/site/

    30km/h issue starts at 2hours 22mins.
[edit it actually starts at 02:26.

You can flick forward to it smile.gif

You can also skip to the debate by using the index points. It will also also you to skip to each speaker by name.

Can't get the bloody yoke to work, click on the 2:26 link and it just resets back to the start. In IE and Chrome and Firefox. Jaysus.

I tried Opera, Firefox and IE myself, just got a black box or a message saying I had to install a plugin (I tried installing the FF plugin too.)

Fianna Fáil plugins don't work unless you bribe them ;)

It seems to start automatically after buffering.
Try stopping it and then move the slider along to 2.26 and see if that works.

Breen really made a poor speech, and I'm not just saying that because I disagree with him. He also described the 30 zone as "political correctness", which doesn't even make any sense, since it has nothing to do with offensive language, behaviour or ideas.

I guess that this quote from the Wikipedia page on Political Correctness explains it.
More generally, any policy or factual claim opposed by the political right, such as the claim that global warming is a serious problem requiring a policy response may be criticized as "politically correct".

Nice to see FG starting to use the mangled vocabulary of Rush Limbaugh and his ilk.

Stewart Lee does a good routine on the very subject...

"...basically there's a whole generation of people who have confused political correctness with health and safety legislation."

RTÉ News: Gerry Breen elected Lord Mayor of Dublin

    ...brilliant...

(Maybe when they bring in the legislation for it he'll get elected as the new Mayor-Who-Has-Actual-Power and then we can all just get our two-wheeled toys off his roads.)

I dont think this affects the council regulations whatsoever. The mayor role is purely ceremonial and it shouldnt change things. That being said he seems to be a sensational fool in his comments about cycling

I for one welcome a mayor of such wit, eloquence and keen intelligence. "Kick your ass" and "political correctness gone mad" indeed. Would that I had his way with words.

How about an escort of cyclists to travel along side his ceremonial horse-drawn carriage for every outing?
