Café/wine bar in Tullamore

I’ve been pondering over opening a café/wine bar in Tullamore for some time now with a European/New York feel to it. It would be small and I would be focusing more on good quality coffee and scones/cakes/soups rather than the usual salad bar/panini lunch food. The concept is to create an Irish cultural, relaxing, friendly go to place with an informal, vintage décor. Also, I was playing with the idea of selling some small vintage home furnishings/paintings and books on art, design, food, culture, etc. However, it would be very risky in the current climate so I would need to know if there is a market for this in Tullamore. All opinions greatly appreciated.:)

    Hi,

used to work in Tullamore for number of years, have my own business in nearby town.

Some thoughts on Tullamore & business (in no particular order):

    • good town for business in the midlands
    • there are coffee shops/italian rest that seem to do well
    • there are some prime locations in the town, so expect rents there to be higher (and probably negiotable)
    • what would draw customers into your place - USP - cosy, friendly, reasonable priced, good food??
    • what kind of products - american style waffles?? fresh fruit waffles?? how do you price these so people see it as a place to drop in each day
    • where in the town would get the best footfall.....is there adequate parking nearby
    • what would be your cashflow requirements for first 3/6/9/12 months?.......and where would you get the initial money required??
    • public liab insurance?
    • would you need staff?
    • Where would you source the equipment - how would you pay for it -
    • have you talked to any other coffee shops in other towns to see how they did it and survived!!!.....www.halocafe.ie/index.html - this guy has opened 2 within last number of years
lots for you to think about

Thanks for tips. I'm in the process of doing a business plan. There's definitly alot to think of and I wont be jumping into anything quickly but I have a good feeling that it could work if the location among other things is right.
