Difference between shoe models

I've just been looking to pick up a new pair of shoes and was just going to get another of the exact same I've got at the moment. I'm not actually that happy with the mileage that I get out of this model but that could be down to me trying on a new pair of them too soon and then noticing the difference with the new ones before I should have so switching to the shiny new pair before I actually needed to last time.

Anyway, they don't seem to have the exact same model number of what I got last time now and have added a +1 to it's number, and no doubt changed other critical things like the colour scheme. But how much does actually get changed from one revision to the next of a shoe and should I really be going and doing the gait thingy again now to see if there is something better now?

The ones I'm on about are the Mizuno Wave Inspire 5 which has now become a 6.

Just as luck would have it I got my shiny new pair of Inspire 6's today :D
I have just battered a pair of Inspire 5's into bloody submission after some 850 odd km's, so you could say they had lost their bounce
Still in the box, going to take them for a spin either tonight or in the morning, will let you know what I think then if it helps

Edit: had a quick peek earlier and any changes appear at first glance to be cosmetic only

I'm only newbie-ish to all this, but this is my limited experience.

The start of summer I got a pair of Kayano 15's. Found them ideal, and they did me till this Christmas. Got myself a pair of 16's, but they feel completely different, and I'm not comfortable in them at all. I'm blaming them for a sore right ankle I developed in the 6 weeks of using them. I've had to reinvest in a pair of 15's and I'm back running happily again. To say I am disappointed with the 16's is an understatement.

I know I'm going to have problems getting another pair of 15's (come September or so) and I will go and get gait analysis done, and see what that throws at me :D

Was planning on doing pretty much the same thing when my current 15's (my third pair) wear out, I tried the 16's on in Elverys and hated them pretty much as soon as they hit my feet.

Really not looking forward to changing though!

Completely agree on the Kayano 16's - they are a totally different shoe. Not just to the 15 but to all the previous Kayano models. As soon as I get my moneys worth I'll be moving away from the Kayano.

Took the new Inspire 6's out for an 8k trot last night - I like them
My foot felt snug and well supported in them, my foot seemed to just fit better in them - but that could be imagined
The top eyes for the shoe laces are a bit higher up (closer to the heel if that makes sense) that the Inspire 5
This is an improvement I think as it helps me to anchor my foot further back up the runner and away from the toe box
My second toe is longer than my big toe and used to get an awful bashing in the Inspire 5 - hopefully this might be lessened somewhat
The heel, and sole in general, looks taller - I presume this will provide a bit more cushioning and maybe a bit more longevity
There was no noticeable increase in the weight of the runner over the 5, but there are surely some stats somewhere on the internet to prove / disprove that
I wore a size 9.5 in the 5, and 9.5 in the 6 is perfect for me
All the relevant bits seemed to be there, with the second wave plate to kick back overpronators like the 5 did
Slightly different styling and colouring - got a big thumbs up from Mrs DB and also some of the girls in the office so a winner in the fashion stakes as well
They are also a lot cleaner than my Inspire 5's
They don't smell as bad as my Inspire 5's either
I didn't notice any other changes than that

Disclaimer: I'm not that fussy a person

Having said all that though, I do like them, and look forward to spending many more miles in them

Seems that it can range from "completely different" to "they are clean" for the differences between models then. Seen a couple of suggestions for the ones that I'm looking at being slightly lighter than the previous model, but not a lot as far as any major differences so I think I'l get away with it.

Now to see what else takes my fancy from Wiggle today...

Hi RubyK - you should check amazon.com and ebay.com for Kayano 15's - plenty available and pretty good prices in dollars too if you hit the size right. I was very happy with Kayano 13's and got another pair on ebay (new) last summer - they worked out at around €56 incl postage. worth a try

Thanks kit3, I got a pair of 15's on ebay for €51.50 (they wanted €140 in a shop here, which I just couldn't justify).

My 16's will now be used for spinning class - what a waste.

One think I have noticed with Kayano's is that I don't find walking in them comfortable at all. Running yes, walking no
