Never got into the IPL - don't know why. Is ITV4 available on Sky, NTL?

ITV4 is on NTL/UPC - check the website but I think all the UPC packages include the channel. Its on SKY via "Other Channels" submenu I think. All UK FTV set ups have it as standard.

Thanks for that. I have Sky, and have used the Other Channels bit before - if I remember/have time I'll watch a few of these games.

Looks I am wrong, its not already on the Irish sub, but you can add it and store it in the Other Channels menu go here for instructions.

slightly worried about this as an NTL customer. Really hope they don't restrict this to UK only like they have done with the darts and the rugby.

Its on youtube anyway lads. :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 412 ✭✭An Tarbh

yeah but that's not the same as tv obviously unless the stream is of the same quality as the HD one the EBU had for the Winter Olympics.

Looks like Setanta also have the rights for the IPL, according to their online tv listings anyway, nothing yet on the EPG on NTL though.

I wonder now will the ITV4 coverage be blocked.

Its not the worst though, I mean obviously TV is the preferred option, but I for one would have no problem watching it on youtube if the quality is this good...

I'll be watching on ITV4. I haven't liked the youtube quality for the clips they had up there previously. Streamed the video via the PS3 on my big screen tv and could barely make out the cricket ball with the distorted pixels. Hopefully the quality for the live matches will be better, and I suppose it won't be as much of an issue on people watching it on pc/laptop monitors.

Ms Bedi is a fairly useless presenter, and the guests are fairly irrelevant for 20/20. Hoggy and Hick?? Oh dear. Still it wont matter once the games get under way.

Had a tenner on Kolkata, looking good. Nought for 2 after 4 balls. Paddy Power must love me.

    Edit:

A run on the board yee haw, the fightback begins.

    31 for 3

FFS, Hodge will have to do it on his own I think. Shah might just be ok after he takes 10 overs to play himself in

    31 - 4

Kolkota Fail Riders fail again lol.

They might improve once Mcculum and Gayle are back.

Can anyone confirm if it's definitely showing on ITV 4 through UPC?

Yep, watching it now on UPC in Dublin.

My gf wants to know why Andrew Symonds is wearing sunblock when it's dark out. So do I tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 79 ✭✭DonRosco

Fantastic, thanks. As far as I know, Symonds is sponsored by the sunblock manufacturer and is contractually obliged to wear it, no matter how pointless it is.

They need to get some runs here...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,276 ✭✭✭Memnoch

4 overs, if they can manage 40-50 runs it might be competitive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,046 ✭✭✭Dustaz

wow the quality on youtube really is quite poor :(

    good over

In terms of the US sports, it depends on how you define "big". They are only really "big" in the USA. The IPL is big in India, and could, over time, get to similar levels of "scale" as the NFL and NBA. However, cricket is only popular in a relatively small number of countries, which limits its worldwide potential.

The English Premier League is, however the largest league in the most popular and global of all sports and is, quite literally, in a different league to all the others

Pathan going a bit mental here, still should not be enough as Mumbai really should win this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,206 ✭✭✭✭Rjd2

Pathan's wicket was crucial, if he stayed in they would have won, but once he went unluckily I might add, Mumbai got the job done thanks to some canny bowling from Khan and Malinga.

Yeah, he's living in fantasy land. Cricket's a great sport, but it's very difficult to get into if you don't have the culture around you. Even saying that, the IPL is practically ignored in England. I do like the IPL, but it'll never take over the premier league or la liga in global terms.

RJD2, cricinfo is for scores etc but does not cover our feelings, discussion on a particular topic, for example like this one about Lalit Modi on EPL, NBA...we are already putting our local feelings on it, :-
    )
thats what the buzz it :_(
by the way, my friends in OZ and NZ told me that IPL is on the boom there, on almost every cafe and pub in sydney show this and people love it,

    :-):_)
similiar story is in other part of the world, lets see.

I can understand if ITV4 were directly carrying the broadcast from the local channel in India...but to have a moron like Bedi sitting in a studio in London voicing her opinions on cricket is mind numbing:mad:.....she did try her luck with cricket commentating in India a few years ago but was soon shown the door thankfully...;)

Whats more annoying watching the broadcast is when she and the other idiots in the studio speak over the match commentary after each wicket falls!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,356 ✭✭✭coldfire1x

^^ Totally agree, she is bit of a waste and annoying as hell.

Yesterday she commented that the batsman need to share chemistry. Chemistry??? FFS are they on a silver screen? They can share good partnership or understanding but not chemistry.

I am delighted that atleast ITV4 are showing the matches but really poor panel. Instead they should just go on ad break or something, no need for so called expert panel.

Morgan starts his IPL career with a 6 but makes only 10...the challengers need to bowl really well to win it from here

It will never snow in Chennai but Chennai Superkings will win the IPL...Go Chennai :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,206 ✭✭✭✭Rjd2

If its any consolation, ITV are awful at covering sport full stop, always have been and always will, so the fact their cricket coverage is shoddy will surprise nobody.

Sunny Gavaskar pretty critical of Morgan's batting....said he was trying to be too smart too early!!!.....this coming from a man who once made 36 not out for India after batting the full 60 overs in the World Cup 1975

So the mighty Kolkata KR roll on, 2 from 2. I think RC Bangalore are quite unfancied but its a nice start to the tournament.
