Brand new 250gb. Pixelating at start-up

    Hi,

As the title may suggest, I purchased a new PS3 250gb last week.
The problem is when I start it up the picture/sound is distorted/pixelated and this last for 4-5 minutes before settling down.
I initially thought it was the hdmi cable but can rule that out.
My question is whether anyone has come across this problem before, and there is something I am missing in settings (don't think so) or should I return it for a new machine?

    Thanks.

Have you googled your HDTV model along with ps3 issues?

It could be a handshaking issue

Don't think it is the tv, I had the 60gb phat hooked up to it with no issues at all.
In fact when I was transferring data from the phat to slim, whilst transferring hdmi between the two machines there were no issues with phat but pixelating for the slim for the first few mins.

I've had some display issues with My 250 GB slim but its been HDMI every time.

Will try holding the on/off button for a few seconds to reset the display, the fact that it last for a few mins is the worrying part.

hmmm I know people always say that all hdmi cables are the same but the two cheap cables I've used have had display issues where as the better quality (albeit still pretty cheap) cable had absolutely none.

I cant discern any difference in the picture quality but one didn't work at all and the other had pixelating issues similar to the ones you describe.

Use the cables that came with it (Scart or whatever) as a comparison.

What model tv do you have ? I had the issue once or twice with my 80gb phat, and it's a bit more common with the slim. I have a Samsung btw.

Try using a different HDMI port on your tv :)

    Its a Samsung Series 4.
Have pretty much ruled out the issue being related to the cable itself and the port because as I said when I was doing a transfer between the phat and slim I had to switch the hdmi between the two to complete the transfer and had no issues with the phat.

Humm well, the problem for me was very intermittent, like once a week.

Does it happen every single time you turn your slim on ?

Fraid so, lasts for 3-5 minutes, thats what leads me to think it is the machine because if it was the hdmi cable or port it wouldn't rectify itself after a few mins?

I'd be bringing it back, pronto. If I had bought it and it wasn't perfect out of the box, I'd bring it straight back for a replacement.

Thanks RangeR, was thinking that myself, but just wanted to make 100% sure I was doing everything right and it was definitely a fault with the machine before bringing it back...

Not much point in bringing back the machine if its only the Cable.

My TV is a Samsung aswell, maybe thats a factor.
