European Trek Suggestions

    Greetings humans,

Just looking for suggestions on walking routes in Europe. My dad turns 60 next month and as I've never bought him a present that he hasn't either lost, broken, forgotten about, or which I haven't eventually reclaimed for myself, I was thinking of booking some sort of walking holiday on the continent this time around. We've walked the final 120km of the Camino de Compostella last year, and would be looking for something similar this time around. I'd like somewhere relatively warm and sunny, and would prefer April/May. In terms of duration, the total trip would have to be between 7-9 days, with maybe 5-6 walking days. I'd like a mix of scenic/historical sights, maybe finishing/starting in a historical city or town. I'd be willing to spend approx €450 on the trip, excluding accom. along the way and spending money. Oh, and I'd rather somewhere other than France or Spain. Any ideas??

Sardinia is a lovely island for walking - I was there a good few years ago in May and was well impressed. No major historical cities though - but there are remains of the pre-roman people who lived there lying around.

Corsica is another pleasant place - but the interior mountains are fairly high and so will probably be still cold even in May. And the capital has lots of napoleonic connections and meuseums and the like.

Check out http://www.explore.co.uk/ - you don't have to book a trip with them but you could download their trip dossiers for some ideas.

You should consider the Camino de Santiago, especially the last section of the walk which is about 100 miles ending in Santiago Spain. Have a look at these websites

They may get a bit forgetful as they get older, but he'd never think it was an entirely new walk surely? ;)

Howe about the Cinque Terra, a trail that links 5 seaside picture postcard pretty villages in Italy? May not be a fraction of the distance you did before, but seems like you can spend a couple of hours walking from town to town each day.

A few years ago We went on this Alpine Trail based in Morgins on the Swiss French border near Geneva. We went booked this through Trailfinders . http://www.skimorgins.com/Summer/alpine_trails_1.htm but I am not so sure if they cover these types of holidays anymore. You may have to go direct.
We got a flight to Geneva with Aer lingus, stayed a night in Geneva and we were collected from the Airport the following day.
All our meals were included (except 1 night off for the Chef).. There are about 10 people staying in the Chalet, a few Irish, Scottish, Americans and Austrailians
It was about €500 for a week not including the flights.

My OH wants to go again and says no other Holiday has come near to it.
