they should just come here to boards

    plenty of ideas floating about

im sure the admins would be happy to create an "ideas" subforum and give the whole thing alot of exposure

There is something very weird with this site:
yourcoutnryyourcall.com is registred by AIB and the contact is

    eBusiness Bankcentre, Ballsbridge
    Ballsbridge
    Dublin Co. Dublin 4
    IE

    The technical contact is :

    Role Netnames Hostmaster
    3rd Floor Prospero House
    241 Borough High St.
    London
    SE1 1GA
    UK

So yes folks the site is registered by AIB and hosted in the UK.

What is wrong with using Irish hosting companies ?
We are supposed to come up with ideas for saving Ireland on a website registered by a company that helped sink us, and the money to host the site is going out of the country.

So much for your country you call

PS I think they cleaned up some of the more outlandish ideas easily linked off the front page which were making it a total pi**take ?

I am not allowed discuss …

I watched their YouTube 'information' video.

    It's very vague.

What exactly do they want? They say at the beginning they are not looking for a product, they are looking for something to transform the country and the economy long-term.

So what exactly would qualify here? Nothing either about how long/specific your initial submission has to be!

Well it appears they definetly don't want Irish hosting providers

Is this actually endorsed by your government?

If so, how on earth can these survive with confidence in your parliament?

Its a case of "Jasus lads,we're lost - anyone got an idea to get us out of this sh1te?" Typical incompetent rubbish - o'leary had an idea for 500 of the unemployed, and he got jack sh1t, what hope have the rest of us. If jimmy Intel suggested harvesting turf and selling it to the arabs, ff would lap it up and give them a big grant - sh1te.

I thought we were getting one of those -I think its called METRO NORTH - sounds like a damn fine idea to me - get all them folks to the dole office, to sign on that bit faster. Wonder can i get a contract to help build it - no, hang on a minute, I'm not foreign, so I've no chance.

It's been set up by the husband of the President. I don't believe it has any official governmental or parlimentary endorsement or support beyond some muted polite applause when it was announced.

OMG what a pile of parrot droppings. Mary and Martin need to get out more often! Drivel like that video would have you reaching for the sick bag. The radio advertising takes some beating but it's nothing compared to the ' dancing at the crossroads' video, and I'm surprised Mary doesn't say the whole idea was given to her in a vision where she saw Dev.

There has been discussion, sorry I should say pi**take, about this on politics.ie about this earlier in week.

Some of entries I found on the yourcountryyourcall.com that I added to that discussion were :

Best one has to be ... which I reckon was added by tom parlon.

"The government should finance deposits for first time buyers."

"Produce ginger beer and market, very Irish. No alternative on Irish market at the moment and added benefit - it’s low in alcohol."

"McDonald’s chain to introduce fish burgers on the menu as fish is more beneficial."
Does anyone see this as an oxymoron talking about heathly food and McDonalds ?

    "Start making wine from blackberries."
To be called Black Priest perhaps ?

"Build a bridge from Dublin to Wales."

Now the best counter proposal from someone on p.ie was :

Pay government pensions out of NAMA profits !

And just to add to all the confusion we have had the Farmleigh Economic Forum where the good and the great flew in, at a cost of €300k, to tell us how to get out of the hole we're in, the Spirit of Ireland (can't understand this one at all), Ireland's Call.....aghhhhh and now Your Country, Your Call which beggars belief! It helps the little people think that something is actually being done about the state of the country, a bit like having the EPA Environmental Protection Agency would lead you to think that our environment is actually being protected. Anyone else confused.

Its all marketing and no substance to make the sheeple think they are doing something.

    from my previous post
    me wrote:
according to Google Earth ruler its just under 500KM from Cork to Brest almost in a straight line close to Isle of Sciliy, so thats about 2 hours on the TGV whic has average speed of 250 KM/h

btw the Channel Tunnel at 50 KM length cost about 5 billion euro

so for price of NAMA we could theoretically tunnel all the way to France

also according to same Google Earth the depth between the 2 points doesn't go deeper than 350 feet (120 or so meters), hmmm

    :D

This site has been the victim of some hamfisted ideas recently (one guy proposed using treadmills to generate energy).

    This though, is sheer brilliance!

Dunno what he is on about, they openly published the term and condition and made YCYC into an Intellectual Property Tender in effect.

My problem with YCYC is the absolute lack of quality control.

    That is a great article.
    Some serious questions in there.
Not saying the whole thing is a sham but secrecy these days is tantamount to deceit.

I remember it when it came out, utter crap. They don't want real solutions, they want happy clappy rubbish like planting trees and growing your own carrots. The president in this country is totally out of touch with reality.

This sort of thing is for CSPE teachers to give to kids to keep them something to do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,241 ✭✭✭baalthor

RTE's Nationwide did a report on this. There are now public brainstorming sessions where groups of people come up with ideas for submission to YCYC.

This site was originally registered to AIB Bank centre Ballsbridge and hosted in UK.

Yet again the powers that be decide that they will save Ireland by sending business overseas.
Weren't they telling us we should patriotic or is that just for us mere taxpayers.

I now notice they have tampered with the registration to make it less evident it is linked to AIB, but as always they make a balls of it leaving aib email address in there.

    I love this one...

    http://proposals.yourcountryyourcall.com/ct/ct_a_view_idea.bix?c=D284E307-BEF9-4396-AF6E-14009EAB8647&idea_id=9753D38F-3105-4E38-B4CB-DA8E9DB701FA

Apparently, according to this guy, us all working an extra hour a week would create "increased production, new jobs, new opportunities under many headings".

I would love to hear how this absurd idea would create new jobs. Putting aside the fact that most people wouldn't even to it, the only thing he is proposing is that people do more work for the same amount of money. Hence, the employer gets more from the staff he already has and thus, he does not hire anyone else. I've no problem with staying later if my boss asks me to or if I've something to finish but this is just absurd optimism from someone with their head in the sand.

i actually like it, im sure its a load of rubbish but its refreshing for the few seconds the ad airs on radio to even think that the people in ireland could actually come together and want whats best for the country.
Then it vanishes and we're back to the day to day crap which just gets more depressing the further we venture into this rabbit hole.

If the whole thing costs 1million( im not saying it does but as an example ) and Nama and bank bailouts are costing over 90 Billion. Then its worth it in my book for those few brief seconds of thought at what ireland could be like( and i dont mean celtic tiger crap ) :)

Ignoring idiots who comment "far right" because they don't even know what it means

Which is itself demented. You can't copyright, patent or trademark an idea, within the EU anyway, and I'm not sure where else they would be applying them. And unless they have the standard severance clause in there, that invalidates the entire t&c...
