Garmin 405 battery life

    Hi All,

Got a new 405 for xmas, so been using it for running and cycling ever since. On the website, it says it should last 8hrs, but i'm noticing the most mine is lasting is ~4-5hrs.

For example, i took it mountain biking Sat, fully charged and after 3.5hrs, got a beep to warn me only 20% left.

Is there something i'm missing or not doing or is there something wrong with my garmin? I do use the HRM sometimes too, i've disabled tones, toned down contrasts to see if that will help. I disable GPS when finished and let it go to sleep mode (only time displayed)

    cheers

bit annoying to be honest, my friend had his old 305 and he has no problem with his, he did mention on the 305, you can change the satelitte connection timer or something so it uses less power..

Yeah, only a feature on the 305 (which has a substantially longer battery life anyway). Mine is around 1.5 years old, and I still get around 6-7 hours. Never got 8 hours out of it though.

I'd need to charge mine after every three or four runs, so I'd say 5 to 7 hours. It seems to lose a lot even if it's sitting inside doing nothing.

When you think about it, you don't ever initiate an ANT+ (bluetooth light) data transfer, so every x seconds the watch must enable Ant+ and do a quick search for devices. I reckon if they made this a manual process, you'd probably increase standby time by a couple of weeks.

This is what happens when the marketing team drives the functionality of a product, instead of the customer.
Marketing: 'Ooh look, it's wireless and automatically transfers data hands-free'.
Customer: 'Yes, but if I simply had to press any of the buttons on the watch, or touch the bezel to kick off a data transfer, I might get an extra two weeks of standy time'.
