basically as the title says have an advent 4211 which is 18 months old. I want to spruce it up a little and wondering has anyone put windows 7 onto it.

I am planning on speeding up the machine a little and getting an extra gig of RAM in there if windows 7 needs as i would imagine it does.

Also how do i go about getting windows 7 onto it and anyone know how much it costs as havent really seen it about in shops as i did when vista was released.

    Any ideas and discussion welcome!!

I have windows 7 on my advent 4211 and it runs like a dream. Never had any issues with it. I'm using 2GBs ram though so maybe that helps. If you want to go with 2GBs ram you'll need to use a single 2GB stick.

Yeah will need to get a 2GB Ram definitely so will put that down on the costs.

will also need to get windows 7 as well as needing a CD drive to load the OS.

whats the main advantages of W7 over the XP system.

Yeah i have a 4211 with win7 ultimate on it and it's fantastic, clearly ultimate is kind of wasted on it as it can't use a lot of the features but it still performs well and i've never had any issues with slowness.

cheers all. Ok gotta price windows 7 then and will use the USB method to load it on.

Also will go scouting on adverts for ram or to amazon.

I have the admit i was concerned about the build quality of the advent but 18 months on and its still savage. its ever travelled around the world for seven month and taken all the battering that goes with it. It deserves an upgrade from XP.

Yeah mine is surviving well too, the onboard RAM that is soldered to the mobo managed to fry itself somehow about a year ago, but other than that, it's a beast.
