Anyone know what's the most time every spent in 1 session on a static bike?

    Personal stories welcome!

    What's your record, Slideshowbob?

My PB is 3hr 13m 37s non-stop on the Tacx VR, finishing at 1.29 on the morning of 31 May 2009. However it does not count for record purposes as I am not Irish:)

IIRC, there was reference in another thread to one of my North County neighbours doing a 7 hour session while watching back to back 6 Nations rugby one day.

If I recall correctly - I did at most 1.5hrs when I was a young and innocent fellow of 18 or so. A friend told me recently he did 4 hrs and was wondering what the record is.

7 hours is impressive. Finishing at 1.29am sounds bizarre - were you doing shift work?

No - I was preparing for last year's WW200, and had undergone a knee cartilage operation a two weeks earlier. Virtually all my preparation was on the turbo. However, with 4 young kids the best time I could get on was after they had all gone to bed. In this particular case it was a Saturday evening/Sunday morning, so work was not an issue.

3 hours is my record. But I usually only do between 1 and 2. Anything over 3 and you have to be some kind of deviant.

    Niko Eeckhout recently did six:
Over Christmas when Belgium was covered in a foot of snow it was impossible to train out doors . So what did Eckhout do ? He trained indoors . But not for 30 mins here and there . When his training program said that he was to do 6 hours , and he could not go outdoors , he did 6 hours indoors on the turbo trainer. Consuming over 10 litres of water during the six hour period he was also sweating this much out . His wife had to come in to him every now and then with a bucket and mop to soak up his perspiration from the floor.

He claims it was a "friend" which must narrow it down considerably.

Anyway, given my current injury status, I may make an attempt on the "all-comers" record, if we can establish what it is. Did an hour and a half last night - Rob, is there some technical term for a sweat-saturated cast (other than "manky")?

He did go on and beat the Irish Ironman record the following year to be fair as a 40 year old. From Skerries but now down in Wexford. There's not much to do down there. Makes you think though

The most I'm doing is an hour to an hour and a half.

    Lads,

Looking to beat the record - my mate has done 4hrs - can it be beaten?

I should have said has it been beaten?

Well I did refer to a 7 hour session above, but for all I know he may have taken breaks between the matches

I think we can safely assume no "official" record exists, so if you want to give it a go, let us know how you get on.

the 7 hour story seems a bit vague.

I think we should collate first hand info on this for autheticity.

I can assure you I wont be trying myself

Probably a weird thing to say but I don't mind the turbo (I quite enjoy it!!)

You can blast away, while watching television or listening to music; read the paper or have an espresso during the rest periods and shout at your domestiques (aka kids) to go get you another bottle or towel.

Most I've done is just over 2 hrs during the cold snap, the second day I got the thing!

I know a lad who used to do 5-6.5 hour turbo sessions regularly. That was on a standard turbo.

I think he got a Computrainer and with the video courses he thinks 8 would be possible.

I believe he avoided breaks by having a bucket beside the bike.

He confirmed that story was 6 hours at least. No independent observer from Stokes Kennedy Crowley however.....

    I've done 20 hours.

Well, at least, it felt like 20 hours but was actually only about an hour and a half.:)
