    I did a quick google and it seems to be somewhere betwen £65-£95 per week...why do we in Ireland get around double, or more than this??

    Much more money is put into housing in the U.K. If you add up housing benefits over there we are pretty equal

    Because Ireland doesn't spend tax-payers money on illegal invasions of other countries, and the crooks in the Dáil aren't half as bad as those in Whitehall.

    I suppose things are a little cheaper over there, but €204 (less now) was only a lot if you were say, without dependants and sharing a house with others. In England it's £101 a fortnight which is a disgustingly low amount. However that's just the basic rate, you get more for kids and stuff (which is why they have a bigger population...)

    :eek::eek::eek:

    Its low alright, but part of me thinks that's good,..on 1 hand its terrible for those who are really seeking work and want to work, on the other its great for the scumbags who have zero intention to ever work and just plan on spending all their lives sponging every benefit under the son like its their god given rite..mite give them the kick up the arse they need and realise that it time to start looking for a job

    I'd rather my taxes went toward some scrounger's Benson & Hedges and Carling cans than some upper middle class ****hole in Parliament who wants a new set of croquet clubs.

    well I agree but the point I'm making is that the amount of cash the scrounger gets should be minimal, which would encourage them to get a job..

    200 odd euro a week with numerous other benefits doesn't exactly make for a miserable life (in the way that £50 a week does) and so gives no real motivation to get a job..

    The idea behind JSA isn't to tortute someone into finding more work though, it's to help you through times of unemployment. More jobs and higher wages would be a better incentive to find work. There's only so many times you can send out CVs only to be knocked back before people will become too demoralised to keep it up.

    This is not a state benefits issue - please read charter before posting again.
