Looking for a decent program to get from 5k to 10k. I'm a new convert to jogging. Quit smoking 2 months ago and started jogging 6 weeks ago. I've followed the Couch to 5K program on coolrunnings.com. It's an 8 week program but last Saturday (week 6) I actually ran a 5k - no walking :)

So now I need to get myself up to 10k. I'm doing the Great Ireland 10K Run on 18th April and I'd like to be able to run it all the way. I'm not looking for world record times ofc - just to run it. It's 6 weeks away - anyone got a good program to get me from here to there?

The shortest training plan I could find was 8 weeks, a Hal Higdon plan.

You could just keep running 3 times a week, and make one of those runs a longer run, building up slowly to 9/10k. It doesn't matter if you haven't run a full 10k before the race, if you've done something close to it the race atmosphere will get you the rest of the way. Just don't start too fast
