Flying around South America

I'm looking for some advice here about getting flights around South America. I've got flights booked to Rio for August and I'm hoping to get 2 weeks in either Bolivia or Columbia in the middle of the month.

Has anyone any experience of flying around SA? I'm having awful trouble finding flights on the usual sites. Am I better off just booking the flights when I get to Rio?

    Thanks in advance.

wouldn't worry too much about it and just book when you get there, there are these little travel agent shops everywhere( all legit) where u can book internal flights no hassle with very little notice.
got internal flights in brazil and argentina, booked both the day or two before and were same price as the net

What do you mean by internal though, filthymcnasty? Within one country or within South America. I found if you were flyig from say one part of Argentina to another it was cheap but once you tried to go to another country it was expensive. I paid almost 500 Euro to get from Brazil to Peru and I booked ages in advance.
