does anyone know of any good part time or even day courses in sports supplements and nutrition? in ireland or even uk? im a personal trainer and strength and conditioning coach and feel i could do with learning a bit more about all these new supplements on the market and the pros and cons of each. im finding that more and more of my clients and gym goers are becoming more interested in asking about this topic than exercise itself.

What sort of supplements? Would you not have learnt nutrition and supplementation your training/study? Can you not re-focus your clients back to the exercise and better nutrition?

obviously you can advise people but that doesnt answer their questions. its a long time since i qualified we didnt only touch on supplements. im talking about creatine,NO,glutamine etc.. you can advice people on nutrition all day but they will just go and buy what they think will make them bigger anyway. times have moved on and its better to be able to tell them what they want to know about supplements if they are going to be buying them anyway than to tell them to stick with a good nutrition plan instead and have them buy the first tub offering a quick gain.

Crazy man! Instead of satisfying the companies who are cashing in on the supplement-craze, why not focus instead on educating your clients who have already been sucked in on what they really need to be doing - getting their diet and training right and steering them away from the marketing hype.

    agreed

the job of any trainer is to be persuasive enough and have a decent enough knowledge base to be able to steer clients in the right direction.

i would start here first and work from there (journals are the way to go as books tend to be miles behind IMO)
