Should I switch from Sky+ and Vodafone broadband to Chorus NTL

    I was wondering if anyone could help me,

    I currently have Sky+ and Vodafone 3meg broadband. If I switch to to Chorus I will get more sports channels and better to broadband for less. Also because I live in an apartement block I use a group dish which means I can only record a channel if I am watching it. My broadband connection is perfect for my needs.

    Therefore you would assume switching is a no brainer. But I have been reading the posts here and I have seen the numerous problems people are having with Chorus.

    What I want to no is, is the Chorus NTL box that unrealiable and would I just frustrate myself changing over? Also is the 5meg braodband with chorus better than vodafone?

    Can you switch to Chorus? I would imagine it's not possible if you are living in an apartment with a communal satellite dish, lack of wiring, permission etc.

    I definitly can chorus people have called to my door to tell me that the apartment block has been wired up. Plus I get post weekly
    from chorus telling I can switch

    I live in an apartment too and share a communal Sky dish and I can record two channels at any one time and also record one and watch another. I think your installation has not been done properly and that your Sky box only has one cable feed from the dish instead of the required two. should contact Sky about that (after checking that the 2nd cable has not accidently fallen out of the back of the Sky box).

    I would never switch back to UPC. Crap service and systems, their broadband might be ok but I always hated their TV service!

    i have absolutely no complaints with the service i get from UPC. i get an excellent picture and the new digital+ box is excellent.

    much prefer it to sky (which mother has) as when scrolling through channels you only get the channels you pay for, where in sky you are constantly getting you need to subscribe messages.

    the broadband is a constant 5Mb every time i check speed so you get exactly what you pay for.

    don't have the phone or HD yet but will sign up to HD when it is wired up.

    i do have one or two minor gripes with the administration dept but nothing to bad.

    i am in an apartment also

    Well, if your area has been recently upgraded, then the service ought to be very reliable and the broadband should be speed-consistent as it's a fibre-coax hybrid network i.e. there's fiber to the last amplifier box on the street and you're not in massive contention for bandwidth.

    In some older parts of the network, broadband was relying on very long runs of coax backbone. That's where you had a lot of issues with contention and slowing down in the evenings when the whole area went online after work.

    In general, from what I can see, they only offer their phone services in areas that are updated i.e. they can guarantee a reasonably consistent speed and relatively low contention i.e. VoIP services are of good reliability.

    In areas where you can't get VoIP, you can assume the network hasn't been upgraded to 'fibre power' yet.
