The two studio heads, Vince Zampella and Jason West, appear to have been canned by Activision.

Surely Activision and IW are two separate companies? How could Activision force a resignation or fire them?

Activision owns Infinity Ward since 2003.

@ Spear: Cheers. Didn't know that.

@Tallon: FYP?? What's that stand for?

Possible options I've come up with are:

**** you pal - unlikely given your normal passive nature. ;)
For your perusal - maybe but eh??

    Five-Year Plan

Kotaku have an interesting analysis of ActiBlizzards finances in the context of this.

    http://kotaku.com/5483798/guess-which-three-games-help-keep-activision-afloat

Seems CoD, Guitar Hero and WoW make up 68% of the companies total income.

Who'd have thunk that dumping dedicated servers and turning MW2 into a mickey mouse console game would have such consequences?

Robert Kotick is doing his best to run the COD franchise into the ground the same way as with Tony Hawk and the now defunct Guitar Hero.

Activision doesn't own IW either, they're free agents come October. As for the COD IP, there seems to differing accounts, most saying that IW still own it but with Activision owing a stake in it.

This year's Call of Duty, like those in 2006 and 2008, will be developed by Treyarch, developers of Call of Duty 3 and Call of Duty: World at War. This has been confirmed for several months, and is not set to be changed.
The change comes with 2011's "Call of Duty 8". With Infinity Ward and Activision's contract expiring, the publishing giant has formed a studio named "Sledgehammer Games", counting the director of Dead Space among its staff, to develop the game. Perhaps most interesting of all, the game won't be a strict first person shooter at all, but will "expand into the Action-Adventure genre".
The new business division will be led by Phillip Earl, former head of Activision Asia-Pacific.

In fairness you can hardly call cod mw2 a fps , with the amount of killstreaks. But at least there are no tanks like in cod5 , It was the main reason i didnt play it along with why use a thompson when you can use a scar ;)

Tanks are maybe in 3 or 4 maps. Your missing out. Also, I'd take my Gewehr 43 over any weapon in MW2.

Each to their own pal , but why call it fps when you put tanks into some of the maps , and you get all the kids piling into them , played it for one week every second map we played had a tank in it.
Missing out ... i dont think so , IW has always had the upper hand on treyarch , check the figures. But like i said each to their own.

Check it out West and Zampella are sueing for their royalties and wrongful termination. Heres the transcript of the suit
    http://kotaku.com/5485703/ousted-infinity-ward-founders-lawsuit-against-activision-the-court-documents/gallery/

From reading it i cant understand what the hell activision think they are going to gain from this? Its very telling that they havent released a single bit of info to try to curry favour with the public, probably because they realise most sane people would see it for the sham that it is.
With what the guys say in the suit claims i cant see how activision thought they could get away with this and i hope they lose and lose hard, in the hope that it will cop them and Bobby Kotick will have to descend back into the fires of hell from whence he came

Looking forward to hearing what Activision actually say they did wrong. I'm sure there is more to the story than this but even if only half of this is true or at least half as dramatic sounding activision were way out of line.

I suppose its only fair to remind all that the decision to set modern warfare 2 up with no dedicated servers in order to save on money even though they knew it'd be an amazing seller was West and Zampella'a decision so their no angels ether.
