i was out to night having a few beers and at about 10.40pm i went outside to have a smoke and there in front of me was 3 garda on the main road stopping traffic.
that was no problem with me as i got a lift over and was getting a lift back home. my problem was with the cars in the car park as the pub is a B+B aswell
as i and two others were smoking the garda went over to the cars in the car park with there torches and looked at the window screens looking at the tax ect and they knew we were there as if to say we were driving the cars ect, even though we arranged lifts home ect, to me now it seems were living in 1940.s russia the way things have gone, this is a pub and a very famous pub, too theres 5 pubs closed in the area in the last 4 years and the best of it is there was only 5 people in that bar. and all of us had arranged a lift home we had no cars in the car park to me now its put me from going out to a pub again and no wonder the pubs are finished, i went to london when i was 16 came back 5 years ago im now 40 years of age to me now i plan to go abroad again and i will never set foot on the ireland of ireland again,i am an irish man and il be proud to be an irish man but never in this country, i will be abroad, this country is finished to the people who are going to live in it. because in getting out of it i dont mind and i wont be back never.

I can only hope you're drunk. How are the police to know who has arranged lifts? Their actions have nothing to do with pubs closing and I have absolutely no issues with the Gardai going OTT when it comes to drink driving. Close the door on your way out if you have a problem with it.

So people doing their jobs makes you want to leave your own country ?. Makes no sense to me at all, If they wern't going around the street doing their job then you'd be complaining that there's not enough policing and that you don't feel safe... Either way, you make no sense, to me anyways.

If people in this country of ours sorted out their priorities and stopped being pissed about fuck all then it'd be a better place. We don't realize how good we've got it here.

I'm afraid you're straining to do some explaining. Seems like you have a problem with the Gardai to begin with. They have every right to look at something which is in public view and I really don't see how it was intimidation.

The days when people turned a blind eye to drink-driving are over and rather than criticise them, you should be thanking them. It's your safety they're looking out for too.

Agreed. People need a healthy dose of perspective. It's an easy trap to fall into though. I'm often guilty of complaining about ultimately inconsequential shit.

I found this hilarious. It's like someone deciding that Ireland is too wet for them and then moving to the Atlantic.

Awesome username/post combination. Admirable resourcefulness too. ;)

edit: Probably should include that it's not a good idea to be smoking from anything plastic, just in case anyone has any ideas. Fumes from melted plastic can be highly toxic.

I'm tempted to think the OP is blaming alcohol checkpoints and drink driving laws for closing down country pubs, at least in part.

In which case let them close! If the only way they can support their business is by having their customers flout the law, knowingly, then they deserve nothing better.

no way it was the fact that they went to the parked up cars and with there flash lights were looking at the wind screens it was a private car park they knew we were there at the door having a smoke even though the cars were,nt ours

You do not know what they were checking for. They could have been checking for drugs, illegal tobacco in the parked cars, and had they had found some they would have impounded the vehicle. Its well known that cigarettes are being illegally sold in pub car parks.

TBH you sound as if you have a chip on your shoulder. If you want to get away from a nanny state London is not the place to go. Some people were humorously implying as much, which you did not notice, but the UK is the country with the highest CCTV coverage in the world and an even greater nanny state than this place.

    Bye bye.

Shut the door on your way out.

I can't park outside my local tescos (on a quiet road) here in good old West London without a council camera giving me a ticket. This city is awesome but it has its downsides and it being big brother heaven is one of them.
