    can anyone tell me about this event,im new to it all.
    is it really fast pace/serious stuff?
    can i use a mountain bike?
    ive entered it and now im getting nervous
    don't want to be last one in

    As far as I could see, there were people of all ability levels there this morning and bikes of all sorts. I saw plenty of mountain bikes, hybrids and commuter bikes.

    You should do the course and compare your time to the times of the first and second races.

    If you are doing the newbie race it has a shorter run, across the grass.

    I did my first duathlons (summer ones) on my mountain bike. Slick tyres helped me beat a number of people on fancy racers.
