    hello all,

I want to get some protein, I used maximuscle in the passed few months. No problems with it. But want to see if there is anything cheaper or better out there.

I am also trying to lose weight and would a blend of protein be better. I train 3 times with weights and cardio 5 times a week. Should I take protein after cardio ???

    Thanks

All whey protein is pretty much the same but you can get it for a LOT cheaper on ebay, I get mine for 45 quid per 5 pound drum. It's nice too!

It makes sense to take protein after cardio training as well as weight training because you're using a lot of muscles when running/cycling etc and it's a good way along with squats and box jumps to build up leg muscle. Also the faster you get nutrition after training the better, which is what those shakes are good for. There's literally no benefit in them if you're gonna have steak and potatoes straight after training but they're a handy quick fix.

MyProtein.co.uk are EXCELLENT. I've tried the high street brands and not only are they more expensive, they don't taste as nice.

My own experience is in this thread: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055469370&highlight=myprotein.co.uk

If you decide to order with them, you can get 5% off your first order by using the code in my signature. I'd honestly recommend them 100%. Not one person I know has used them and found them anything but excellent.

OP how did you get on with Maximuscle? I am using cyclone at the moment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86 ✭✭bubblyone

I got to like BSN Lean Dessert protein (the chocolate fudge and choc coconut are divine) but they were out of it in Nutrition Connection so found it in this place http://www.cheapuksupplements.com/shop/index.php. Put the order in around 11pm on a Friday and the courier delivered the box on Wednesday! Worked out around €17 per tub vs €27.95 in Nutrition Connection.

Not to be smart but i dont know. I tried the diet and basic. I have not used it every time I worked out and only used one scope a time. The taste was grand. Going to get it sort for this month training and keep to the guidelines. Might go with my protein.

That's incredibly cheap. 5kg for £34.99 versus £47.99 on MyProtein.

Is the stuff any good? Have you ordered off them?

Actually just saw that the stuff is unflavoured. Unflavoured 5kg is £34.99 on BulkPowders and £39.99 on MyProtein. Flavoured is £44.99 versus £47.99.

Urgh, overpriced and not great. From someone who's tried most supps, and brands, I'd put Maximuscle wayyyy down the list.

completely agree with you,I dispise maximuscle products, their taste and texture is horrific and they dont give you very good results.I would avoid cyclone and go for sci-max omni-mx as a better equivalent:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,101 ✭✭✭brianblaze

What's your goal, with the Cyclone? I replaced it with Mutant Mass and EVF storm, if it's size and strength your after, that's why I've found to be a good combo

I got 5kg off them a while back. Total cost including delivery was about €55 for the unflavoured stuff. Usually blend it up with some frozen berries and it seems to mix fairly well.

    +1 for Bulk powders

got unflavoured 5kg. Mixes excellently, really smooth, absolutely no lumps.. I also got the choc flavour to add to it. It suggests to add 10 drops of the flavouring to a shake but 5 I find is plenty. So the flavouring should last you twice as long as it reccomends.

    Eg: a 5kg tub contains 166(30g) shakes

The flavouring contains 100 servings (at 10 drops) and 200 at 5 drops... more than enough to cover the 5kg

In my experience, H&B supplements are very poor. Cheap, and with good reason, in my opinion. Spend a bit more, got alot more value for money. Shop online, or if you're unsure about what to buy, drop into a branch of 'The Vitamin Shop' The dudes there are well informed, and very helpful. Thyself how I navigated my way through the world of supplements first.

Or read the forums, where we reccomended and at the same time, slate every product on the Market over here!

Yeah its made somewhere down in Cork which makes it very cheeky for that price. All of the irish supplements companies like Kinetica, Nutrition X and complete seem to be made up of just filler. Apparently none of these have the levels of protein they say. Gold Standard is the best worldwide.

The best deal I've seen for ON whey in dublin is in the vitamin shop.
Its 100 euro for one of those huge 4 kilo bags.
15% off on thursdays so you can pick it up for 85 - not bad.

    dude,
    that is bad.
    that is way too dear.
i was paying 80 euro for a 5kg bag of reflex instant whey which isnt bad protein, it must be said, so that's 20 euro per k

    then ordered from my protein.
i got 6 tubs of 2.kg true whey for 100 sterling or 120 euro so that works at 8 euro per kg.

shipping was about 10 euro which would bring the price up to 8.10 per kg.

    NO BRAINER

There are a lot of people who see buying on line/overseas as hassle, some don't like to use their credit cards on-line,some are too impatient to wait for delivery and some just like to be able to speak to a sales person for advice.

As far as proteins go he was asking specially for Optimum,i have tried most out there and it is by far the best tasting whey you get what you pay for!

i have tried a lot of them too out:
    reflex
    kinetica
    myprotein
    ON gold standard
    Dorian Yates/CNP

Ifound the Dorian Yates the nicest tasting but its outrageously expensive.
