    Hi there,

Just wanted to check with mods whether its OK to post this since it could be considered spamming or 'commercial interest'

I created a blog for my Dad - all his aviation pics over the years. He has thousands and will be putting them up gradually. approx 30 as of 28th Feb.

    Its www.irelandaviation.com

Anyone have any good amateur sites?

Anyone like any of the photos up on the site? I'll ask my dad to post the ones from the 60's, or the really weird ones.

I have a couple of pics up on www.jetphotos.net but the site has become incredibly elitist to the point that I no longer try and upload any pics to it.

    www.irishairpics.com is a good site.

Would a sticky be out of the question? I see that we have pictures uploaded sticky but no referral sites sticky.

    Irishairpics is v good....

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "elitist". Yes, photos do have to be of a good quality to be accepted to this and other sites, but the rise in standards has been driven by the explosion in digital photgraphy worldwide in the last five years or so. If you look back to the early uploads to any of these sites you'll see that many would not pass muster today.

I upload to JP on a reasonably regular basis and have a fairly good acceptance rate. However I only submit photos that I think have a good chance because they are sharp, well-composed, level and don't have a lot of clutter in them. I might add that I do not have a madly-expensive camera or lens so it really is not beyond anyone's ability, given patience and care, to have their images accepted there.

jetphotos.net looks very similar to airliners.net, they aren't by any chance the same site with slightly different themed interfaces. Are they using the same database ?

No, they are separate and in many ways competitors. Each has its good points and in fact there is a certain amount of overlap in content anyway as some photographers upload to both sites.
