You can only sit the test 6 months after obtaining your Learner Permit. However, you can apply for the test before that, but on the day of the test, you have to have held your Leaner Permit for more thn 6 months.

It's annoying I suppose - but the theory behind it is that you get 6 months expierence of driving. I thought it was annoying as well, but once 6 months went by it didn't feel like that long!

I applied for the test a couple of weeks after getting my provisional.
Only thing when you apply for the test, make sure to have the test date after 6 months of when you got your provisional.

My 6 months just completed this month and I've got my test in two weeks time.

If I would have had waited till I completed the 6 months before applying for the test, I'ld be waiting for another couple of months till I'ld get to do the test...
The sooner you get over with it the better!!

When you get your permit, if your applying for the test online you may have to wait a week for your driver number & details to be put on the system to allow you to book a test.

af_thefragile were you given the option of picking a date when you booked yours?

There is an option of what dates you won't be available to take the test.
So I chose from the day I applied (sometime last september) till exactly 6 months from when I got my provisional.
Then a few weeks ago I got the date for my test, which is next saturday...

It worked out quite well for me!
