Just wondering when I do my driver test I want to use my instructors car. They say its possible but how does it work? Will the instructor pick me up at my house (like normal) drive to the test center then sit there and fiddle their thumbs as I do my test?

Yes that's usually what happens. Most instructors include a 1 hour pre test in the cost of hiring the car, so he should collect you at least an hour before your test, wait around the test centre while you're out, then drop you back home.
