xbox has such a bad reputation for failures, but in the last month there have been so many people on boards whos ps3s have died.... mine died 2 weeks ago... hdmi gone in it....

Just wondering how many of you have lost a ps3 for any reason...

Yep, my old one died when the HDMI went. Afraid to update to 3.15 (still on 2.76) in case it kills my 40gb PS3

    oops sorry.

    but...
those are all specialised cases, YLOD, and BluRay of death..

This thread is a general one covering all cases of ps3 death.

Yep. Two have died for me. My Hong Kong launch 60GB model got the YLOD after about two years. Couldn't get it repaired due to it being a HK model so had to buy a new one.

New one broke about a year later (fat 80gb model) but was able to replace it in HMV for a 120gb slim so that sort of worked out ok.

    Third one, no issues..... yet.

My first PS3's disc reader decided to give up after about five months. Just brought it back and no trouble since.

My first one (40GB) died inside 10 months - it would stop responding and crash after about 30 mins. Since I never heard any fans running, I can only assume it was overheating.

Got it replaced, and current one has been fine so far, though it doesn't get much abuse these days.

I got a 60GB on launch day, and eventually swapped it for a 40GB plus cash. Never had any issues with either of them.

The 360 seems to be more prone to sudden death compared to the ps3. However, at least for the xbox you can kind of tell when it's on its last legs by how loud it gets. The first one we had started getting extremely loud before it crapped out.

I lost mine in the Pub.

I put up flyers but I am not optimistic.

Have a launch-day model and she's trucking along fine. I think sometimes "dead" PS3's occur because they're couped up in small, cramped areas that don't allow proper air flow and thus literally melt the components. You've basically got a supercomputer in your house, which gets hot. You wouldn't dump an expensive PC in such a small area!

there's no reason why this could not have been fixed....just saying this in case anyone else has an ntsc model that has ylod and thinks the same.....glad it worked out in the end with getting the slim....
