Aldi have 10” MEDION AKOYA Netbook on sale Thurs next for €299and was thinking of buying it for my mother. She’d be using it for drowsing internet, printing off documents and playing occasional games. http://www.aldi.ie/ie/html/offers/2827_12161.htm

I’ve never had a lap top or netbook before and not sure of the following

1.Could I connect a Brother 135c printer to it?The printer is an USB conection.
    2. Other than optical drive what other accessories are usually necessary?
    3. It has a 250gb hard drive and 1gb ram. Is this enough to handle puzzle games like Bookworm, Bejewelled that she’d install.

My first instinct was that this was going to be rubbish BUT it has
    Windows 7
    250GB Sata Hard Drive
    6 Cell battery
    Wireless N standard

All these could have been specced down to lower levels so Id have to say its not a bad buy .Its identical to an MSI Wind Is imagine BUT aftersales care could be an issue ...
All in all though Id say you wont do any better assuimng you can actually GET one (camp outside the night before?) and theres nothing with identical spec in the mainstream shops PC World/Currys/Argos etc

Its not a bad little netbook. Its not way better than most, not by a long shot.

But usually you'd be paying over the 300 mark for a netbook with 250gb HD. Built in bluetooth too which could be handy.

As it was said though, I dont think aldi will be offering much by way of aftercare. But if it comes with a warranty I'd say go for it.

    Yes

    USB Flashdrive, mouse?

Should be, but worth checking the games' instructions re memory, operating system etc.

The aldi warranties are usually very good, it's a case of, if it breaks, you get a refund a lot of the times. Can't really complain, i noticed on the ad in the papers tooday that it has a multitouch trackpad, that could be interesting

thx for the replies. 2 more questions -

    1. what sort of price will I pay for a run of the mill external optical drive?
    2. Can I operate it directly off an electrical socket? What sort of time period can I expect when using it soley off the batteries before it goes dead? How long would it take to charge the battery?
