speed camera question

Hey all ,

quick question , was driving to work this morning on the M1 soutbound , there was a garda car on top of one of the bridges with handheld gun , do they clock you for speeding? or do they have to come after you ? i heard about those gatso vans but it was just a lone garda and the guard had the gun on top on the car ..what u reckon just checking speed or do they issue fines ? just question .. thanks

If it was handheld- they have to come after you and stop you. There are a select number of mobile speed cameras on tripods that can take a picture of your reg but i have never seen one!!

Don't have to come after you...can just land in the post...sorry....
But they will chase if the speed is excessive!

ah right thanks , i wasnt speeding was under the limit .. just wanted to know what way they worked .. thought they had to be on a tripod or something ...

Be aware too some of the cars are fitted with number plate recog gear so they only have to chase the ones they know have something dodgy about them...no tax/nct/speeding etc....Seeing more n more of this lately....

Yah i head that too , alot of them around dublin lately but heard they have to be behind you and have clear visabilty of ur plate then they chase .. happened to a mate of mine ...

keep your eye out for the white transit....outside guiness a lot and also M1 Southbound inside the traffic cones at the roadworks. also the N4.

On the slip road off the M11 northbound at loughlinstown last night ..in the fkn dark...sneaky barstools....no high viz jackets or anything...

If the gun is handheld, they do have to stop you, afaik.
