BMW 3-series "Oil Separator or Value" Fault

    Hi

anyone have any experience of faults on BMW 3-series with oil separators or values, one of my cars, late 07 320 D SE started sending out blue smoke and had a rattle in the engine, left it in with BMW Naas Road still under full warranty cover and was told after 3 days, it must be the oil spearator, which they are stating is not covered under warranty.

Have done a google search and found a few similar faults, with manifold leaks and other things, just wondering if anyone had some experience or insight into this.

Have a €500 bill for a car that is under warranty cover and Ive been told it would take a week for the blue smoke to stop, ie for the oil to leave the engine -- have concerns that engine might have been damaged, thus need wider advice to made a case.

Crazy thing is I can pick up an oil separator in the UK for £35 and fitting shouldnt cost more than £100, but in Dublin might as well x 3

Write to HQ about it. I would have thought the only things not covered by 3 year warranty would be bulbs, tyres and clutch.

Find a good bmw specalist and have that looked at !!!!!!!
For a main dealer to let a car out like that is a disgrace. The build up of oil is most likely in the intercooler and if your engine starts to run on that oil you will not be able to stop it blowing itself appart . Also the seperator is only around €40 over here can you post a copy of the invoice? That sounds like extortion

    Hi

I dont have invoice yet as car is still in with BMW. It seems they have to drive it for a few days let the oil come out of the engine.

The manager assured us this is not a warranty item, its a serviceable item, which has done my head in. I asked for a breakdown of costs:

    €56 oil separator
    €145 diagnostic
    €180 labour
    €381 + VAT

I think its a total rip off - nothing surprises me here in Ireland anymore, did some checking and in the UK an oil separator change is about £120.

Anyone got any more insight for me -- worse thing is Im not sure that this oil separator is really the fault, could be anything, a fault with engine, manifold, leaks, I dont trust these BMW dealers at all.

Can you recommend a different BMW that I can trust in southside Dublin?

I'd get a couple of quotes from NI garages. If they're in line with UK prices then get on to the garage again, and then HQ.

I have noticed this new thing of charging for diagnostics, which IMHO is cheeky. This used to be covered under the labour charge.

Have a look at your service book on what required for routine replacement during servicing.

If it says oil separator change at x,xxx km, fair enough, if not INSIST that its covered under warranty as its not in the BMW documentation .

Edit, Why are they charging diagnostic time for a servicable part?

fought for a week or more with BMW about this - eventually they gave in and did it under warranty cover

€450 saved my friends for just sticking with the arguement
