I went to rte.ie/sport to get the team news for this one, and look what I found...

    2lcn3m8.jpg

    Bravo RTE, bravo!

Now after pissing myself laughing for 5 minutes I finally managed to get a hold of the Tipp team, but not the Dubs.

    1. Darren Gleeson (Portroe)
    2. Conor O'Brien (Eire Óg Annacarty)
    3. Paul Curran (Mullinahone)
    4. Brendan Maher (Borris-Ileigh)
    5. Padraic Maher (Thurles Sarsfields)
    6. Conor O'Mahony (Newport)
    7. Shane Maher (Burgess)
    8. Benny Dunne (Toomevara)
    9. Shane McGrath (Ballinahinch)
    10. Seamus Hennessy (Kilruane MacDonaghs)
    11. Seamus Callanan (Drom & Inch)
    12. Hugh Maloney (Nenagh Éire Óg)
    13. Noel McGrath (Loughmore Castleiney)
    14. Eoin Kelly (Mullinahone, captain)
    15. Lar Corbett (Thurles Sarsfields)

Will be going to this one myself so I'll be looking forward to a good game, and hopefully a far better performance than the Dubs put up last week. Hard to know how Tipp will approach the game after the Kilkenny postponements, but they should be favourites to get the points.

That is funny (has since been corrected on website) Anyway Dotsy set to feature after lining out for UCD against LIT in Fitzgibbon cup yesterday. good news for Daly's men.

lol - now thats funny...Nice one Daysha

After my ridiculous predition of Dublin to win by 7 points last week against Waterford i'm going to other direction of Dublin to loose by 7 against Tipp.

I however remain hopeful that Dublin will rise to the occasion and not lie down as they did last weekend.

It won't be an easy one. Tipperary are coming in to what is now their first game. You'd still expect that they'd be more than well prepared for it. What they were holding for Kilkenny may be unleashed on us. We've had the bonus of a match that will have brought us a few harsh lessons, that hopefullywill help us. Tipperary will be going in as favourites, which could be good for us. You'd still have to fancy Tipperary. Up the Dubs.

    Dublin team is:

    1.Gary Maguire
    2.Niall Corcoran
    3.Tomás Brady
    4.Oisín Gough
    5.Stephen Hiney
    6.Ronán Fallon
    7.Maurice O'Brien
    8.John McCaffrey
    9.Simon Lambert
    10.Peter Kelly
    11.Liam Rushe
    12.Shane Durkin
    13.David O'Callaghan
    14.David Treacy
    15.Alan McCrabbe

Still not sure about Maurice O'Brien at wing back and the 2 wing forwards but apart from that, it's a fairly solid line up. Brilliant to see that McCrabbe has recovered.

How long I wonder before Paul Ryan makes the breakthrough. Time on his side. Anyone see him when he came on last sunday

He's a brilliant free taker but I'm not sure if he offers enough from play to be able to command a place in the starting 15. He hasn't been named in the panel of 24 for Sunday anyway.

    Subs are:

    16.Finn McGarry
    17.Davy Byrne
    18.Joey Boland
    19.Michael Carton
    20.David Curtin
    21.Shane Ryan
    22.John Kelly
    23.Peadar Carton
    24.Kevin Flynn

Not many natural scorers in that team, bar Dotsy.

Dotsy, Treacy and McCrabbe are. McCaffrey will probably chip in with a point or two aswell but I don't think it'll be enough to get within 5 of Tipp.

We can't be any worse then we did last week. Good to see Simon Lambert starting in the middle of the park for dublin. It still a very young dublin team. Rush, Tracey and Dotsy can make a few scores. My only wish is that McCrabbe has recovered from last week and is not been rushed back.

Like alot of counties we have a good few students playing college games at the moment and i sometimes thnk we are expecting to much from these lads to play three games in a week.

I also heard from a reliable source that Smiley Reilly has left the dublin panel.

dublin will surely put up a better show than last week, especially in front of their home crowd they'll have to put up a bit of a fight.
tipp's first league game of the year, and they only got one game in the waterford crystal cup.
it'll be close , maybe tipp by 2

Great to see McCrabbe back after what appeared to be an awful injury last week. I expect Dublin to play better than they did the last two weeks, but still think Tipp will win.

McCrabbe gets the majority of his scores from frees no?

Deferred coverage at 4pm, Dublin 1-12 Tipperary 1-7 at half time.

Great turnaround from last Sunday but the job is only half done.

    What? Are you Statto? :o

Looking at it on TG4, the stand in about 2/3 full but it's quite empty behind the two goals.

    I'd reckon about 5k

Well done to Dublin, a team of undoubted potential. from a tipp point of view it is very disappointing. To be beaten is one thing but to be beaten so very comprehensively is another especially after the highs of last year. i know its only the league and we are probably rusty but make no mistake kk will be smacking their lips at playing us next week. we could well get our arse's handed to us again if we dont shake the cobwebs off

off topic but here is a picture of ricky nixon at todays game.
looks an awful lot like colm meaney???

it looks like tipp were blown out of it. Dublin may have been a bit fitter with the extra game but are a decent side. i wish them the best of luck.
such a beating may act as a blessing in disguise for KK next week.

Well done to Dublin. Not overly surprised though. We have a good record at Parnell Park in last few seasons. Very good response though after defeat to Waterford last week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,096 ✭✭✭An Citeog

After the defeat to Waterford, Dublin needed a performance this week and they certainly didn't disappoint. It's hard to single out individual performances because the team played so well as a unit. Gough and Corcoran were superb in the corners and didn't give either Eoin Kelly or Noel McGrath much of a sniff. Same with Joey Boland on Lar Corbett in the second half. Johnny McCaffrey was superb in midfield and Shane Durkin aswell got 2 beautifully worked points in the first half. Peter Kelly was the standout player in the forward line, while Liam Rushe caught nearly everything that came near him.

Tipp will obviously be disappointed with their performance and particularly with the amount of wides they hit in the second half when playing with a fairly strong breeze. Dublin were guilty of it in the first half but definitely not to the same extent. Anyway, it's a great win for Dublin even though it's only still February but the main priority is to survive in division 1 again this year. Anything else is a bonus imo.

Would agree with all of this yeah. I thought Liam Rushe had a tremendous game, in fact Dublins half-forward line in general was all over Tipps half-backs, which is surprising considering the quality they have got there. For all the great scores they achieved though, my MOTM was Niall Corcoran in the corner. He had Lar Corbett in his pocket for most of the game and was very impressive throughout.

It's hard to pick out any kind of positives from a Tipp point of view tbh. Seamus Hennessy impressed me in the first half and scored a wonderful little solo point from the corner, but he faded away in the second half and hit one or two bad wides. Eoin Kelly was pretty anonymous and he had some chances he would have put away in his sleep a few years ago. Probably just one of those days for him.

Tipp really hit some woeful wides in the 2nd half, and most of them weren't exactly the most difficult shots in the world. It's obvious there was a bit of rustiness there but Sheedy should be worried at how lacklustre they were at converting their chances.

Still an enjoyable game though, and thanks again to Darragh and Vodafone for the free tickets :)

Pity you didn't pop into the goblet afterwards myself Flukey and Blackbelt were there for a few pints. Popebenny came up from tipp for this game with his lads.

After the debacle last week in waterford i really feared this game but glad to say the lads stood up to the plate. I can hear the mutterings in tipp but its only the league and sure we were rusty.

Allround a good display by dublin, now for another solid display against offaly to secure division one status.

good display after a dissapointing first outing, good to see a confident look around the field from the Dublin players. Imo they are starting to look like they believe they can win where as in the past then tended to look surprised when ahead. It's a slow process but we're getting there.

Lar played wing forward for all of the second half (not sure if he was on the wing or in the corner in the first half because it was the opposite end of the pitch from me) and it was Joey Boland who kept tabs on him. Corcoran was marking Noel McGrath and Oisín Gough was on Eoin Kelly. All 3 were superb I thought, as were Hiney and Maurice O'Brien and Tomo Brady didn't put a foot wrong either!:D

Rushe wins a serious amount of ball in the air but more often than not, he was forced onto his left side and couldn't really do much. He'll need to seriously improve his ability to strike on his left if he's to become a top class intercounty forward imho.

Good to see Liam Ryan back in action for the Dublin "U21s" (:D) this morning against the Tipp U21s. Tipp won it handy enough in the end but I'm just delighted that the hurling season is back up and running.

Edit: Also, big thanks to all at Vodafone for the tickets.

Delighted with the result today. It was fully deserved and could even have been more. Great response after last week, enough it I felt it was just a blip.

Superb performances by all involved. Maguire collected some tricky balls from under the bar, the full back line were completely in control of McGrath, Kelly and Corbett. The forwards were class, especially Rushe and McCrabbe.

Division 1 status should be alright now, with Limerick and Offaly still to come.

Don't think that the blow-ins are a major problem for Dublin hurling. Only Niall Corcoran and Maurice O'Brien and in fairness Niall is a full time hurling coach here in Dublin, so he's making a decent contribution to Dublin hurling.

I don't really have much of a problem with it if a lad is living and working in Dublin and playing with a Dublin club. Of the starting 15 today, Maurice O'Brien is originally from Limerick and Niall Corcoran is from Galway. The Dublin hurlers have always had a few "non-Dubs" playing and if you scratch the surface of the hurling club scene in Dublin, you'll find a lot of these "non-Dubs" have played a vital role in driving Dublin hurling forward. The more people playing hurling the better!:)

Don't think there's been anything released yet. Attendance wasn't that good though tbh. Plenty of spare seats in the stand anyway and not too many people on the terraces.

Whats considered 'good' or 'not good' in inter-county Dublin hurling?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,908 ✭✭✭Daysha

I think 5,000 is a good estimate. The crowd seemed to be a small bit larger than the Dublin/Waterford league game in Parnell last year and the attendance that day was around 4,000 iirc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 683 ✭✭✭Gingy

The attendance was decent enough I thought. The stand was 3/4 full. The county board as per usual fixed matches for today at 2.45, so many Dublin Gaels couldn't make it (Pitch was unplayable, so mine was called off;))

mullet and I have stood there when there were barely a thousand at league games i thought the attendance today was good for a league match, it is comparable with what you would get anywhere else this time of year.

as for non dubs playing, it was tried in the past and was successfull - we got to a leauge quater final back in 97 I think with ex-kilkenny players bolstering us - and I think it was a good idea to be honest, and that isnt to mention our current manager :D

as for the match, after last week end I pondered with Mullet if we were doing a lot fo time in the gym and that caught us out badly, that with a team more skillfull than we are any disadvanatge would show up badly this time of year. Looking at them today I thought they were a lot fitter faster and zoned in than Tipp were. Considering that at times in the second half Tipp played with bursts of ferocity and then seemed to burn out it just seems to bear out my theory. Tipp cannot use the rusty excuse, they were suppsoed to be ready to face Kilkenny twice already these past few weeks. Fair enough, that game will bring out the ferocity and the hunger in them a lot more then this game would as they would see it as a marker for later on. Dublin played with an ease and a fluidity that suggested to me that they have got over the weight of expectation and perhaps have suffered an almightly kick up the arse after last week.

There are loads of non-Dubs playing hurling at every level in Dublin. It's not as if either O'Brien or Corcoran were high profile players that transferred up to Dublin. They represent their respective Dublin clubs and have worked their asses off to get where they are now. It's up to the other lads on the panel to try and displace them.

Scored a great point yesterday. I think if players are okay with it there is no problem. They are a very vocal lot as a rule as we found out when UCD when cleaning up in the Dublin County championship.
I assume there is a cap on how many non county players each team can play. Maybe someone else can clear that up.

So a Dublin player sits on the bench-and a limerick player plays can't agree with you there
