Trojan on laptop, then gone?

    Hey all,

My anti-virus program gave me a warning message yesterday saying i had a trojan on my laptop. I told it to fix the problem and it said it failed to do so, it then rebooted the computer. Upon restart, everything seemed normal. I did a full computer scan and it reported no problems or viruses.
That seems odd, as why would a virus be in my comp, then just vanish like that? Could my computer be infected and the security bypassed? or a imitation program pretending to be my anti-virus perhaps?
    Any advice is appreciated.

    Thanks.
