I drive a 2003 Ford Fiesta and this morning I was on my was on my to Letterkenny! I encountered a potentially serious problem when the Clutch, when it went limp on me. I'm not an aggressive driver to have burnt it out, which I initial thought was the problem.

I got it towed to a garage anyway, to have it checked out and found out what the financial damage would be! They chacked it out and found the clutch pedal had detached from the shaft in some manner, which sounds like the symptoms of a bad driver! It was a simple fix, costing me only €40, thank god for small problems I prefer I didn't have! As a note, the previous owner was a woman, and I'm just wondering has anyone ever experienced a similar problem in the car!

It doesn't sound like that at all to be honest. It sounds like a part / linkage wore and they fixed it.

It could have been worse! I just thought the problem could have been caused by poor driving, just wear and tear I suppose!

Have seen similar in the focus where the pedal actually breaks. Seems to be an issue that should be!!

Its a common problem on the fiesta, the clutch master cylinder plunger, which attaches to the pedal, is plastic and can bend easily and sometimes break off altogether.

@OP, once it has bent once, it really needs to be changed as the plunger now has a weak spot and will likely bend or break again.

The problem is nothing to do with driving style although, obviously, lots of city/stop start driving will not help it.

Dont bloody remind me:mad:.I had to change a clutch master cylinder on one of these cause 1, the clip that holds on the cylinder rod where it goes onto the pedal had broke, and 2 there was leak.never again. The rod from the cylinder is now held on to the pedal with a cable tie.

I had a problem a while back on a 03 diesel Fiesta where the cable detached itself from the pedal, don't know if there's supposed to be some clip to hold it on. Also fixed it with a cable tie, still working !

Why would that be the symptom of bad driving, and what has the fact that the previous driver was a woman got to do with it? Your original post came across as being really childish to be honest.

Maybe if you'd met up with the bird who owned the car before you she could have fixed the part that went limp for free.

On the petrol cars, as can be seen on this thread, its hydraulic not a cable. There is supposed to be a stupid little spring clip on there.Thats what is causing the failure in the first place.
