123.ie

    Hi guys,

Apologies if this has been covered before, but I did a search for 123.ie and nothing came up, so...

I've been getting quotes for car insurance today. My details are:
33 yr old Male. 5+ yrs NCB. Skoda Octavia 1.9tdi. 2 pen points. €8,000 value.

    Prices worked out at:
    Alliance - €901
    AXA - €780
    Prestige - €630 (current insurer)
FBD - €625 (plus €50 voucher for full service)
Quinn - €565 (discount for wife's health insurance included)

I was going to go with FBD. I know Quinn were marginally cheaper, but I've heard lots of stories about how they can really cause problems with claims. I've been with FBD before and found them 1st class.

However, then I rang 123.ie. €458!! That is a serious discount on the next best price. It includes 24 hour roadside assistance, full glass cover. I'm not 100% sure if it covers NCB protection, but am checking that out.

I've never heard much about them before. They are covered by Travelers insurance in the UK. Presuming the NCB is included, anyone have any bad stories, or reasons to avoid?

    Thanks.

Did you get that price through my contact? If so, she more than likely applied a discount for you? I've got my house insurance through 123.ie now also.

Stalk much??* Just 5 mins to spot my post and reply!! LoL :)

It wasn't her, because she doesn't work in the Car Insurance part. She got a work colleague to ring me. Wasn't sure if she'd have been able to put the discount on through the other guy?

On the NBC cover, it's 1 claim in a 3 year period for an unlimited amount and your NCB will not be affected. If you have a second claim you will step back 2 years in your ncb.

Try Insure.ie, I am similar to yourself, apart from age, I am a bit older and 123.ie gave a very good quote, but Insure.ie were cheaper again.

I've moved to 123.ie for my car and home insurance in the last year because they where significantly cheaper, and my existing insurer wouldn't match the quote.

No negatives to report so far - but I haven't had to make a claim (and hopefully won't!). But that's where I suspect they might be less helpful - perhaps I'm just being paranoid though!

It's actually a co-incidence! I saw the thread title and just clicked on it, only noticed you were the OP after reading it.

Perhaps you didn't get the discount if other people are also reporting they were cheaper than the others you mentioned.

Cheapest offer they had on their website was €550. Still good compared to other companies, but way behind 123.

Anyone heard anything about Travelers insurance? Maybe that's the more relevant question...

I went to them this year. Saved about €300. No hassles dealing with them at the time

Haven't dealt with them myself but several of my neighbours have house insurance with them and are having serious problems and delays with their claims. Our area and houses were flooded back in november.

Car insurance side of it may be different but I doubt it.

iv'e recently discovered 123.ie is a broker not an insurance company, so why isn't this made clear in their adverts??

    bit fishy??

I have car insurance with www.123.ie and they were the cheapest out of all the insurance brokers/ companies.

They are a broker for Travellers Insurance.

They are owned by one of the UK Dragon's from the TV series Dragons Den.

Never had to claim so I do not know how helpful they would be in case of a claim.

I got an on-line quote for my car for 620 with chill.ie then I rang them didn't mention anything about on-line quote but got a quote of 430 with full no claim protection.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,445 ✭✭✭Absurdum

I've been with them for the last 2 years or so, no problems except they charged €40 to change over to my new car.

    <edit> Incorrect info.

Scrap the above, I just read the T&C's properly from 123.ie and they provide the cover up €30million also.

HA! Similar story with me. Got my renewal with 30plus fully comp for €565. I checked the same details on their website and got a quote of €488!!!

Went 3rd party in the end with Insure.ie for €300. 1.9 passat, 32 with 6 years NCB.

With 123 as well. One thing - they charge €10 for a temporary insurance transfer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,692 ✭✭✭shawpower

So there don't seem to be many problems with them.

    1. Issue with Travelers Insurance with regard to Flood damage, but not similar comparison to Car Insurance.

    2. Possible extra expense with regard to changing car.

Overall, if that's the worst people have experience, I think I'll save the €100 and go with them...

Check quoteme.ie as well......Was with 123 for House insur but then ran into a snag with the Mortgage company over the cover. 123 were based on UK rules not Irish ones so slightly different. Have moved back to an Irish company since....

It looks like they have a standard price as my insurance is the same price (same age & area) on a 2.0i Accord and I know someone else of a similar age paying the same price.

I've not had any problems with them and I've been with them over 2 years now - but then again, I've not had to do anything except pay for renewal. They were very prompt with the documents though - paid at 15.00 and the disc was through the letterbox by the time I got home from work the next day.

Travellers are just pushing for market share, nothing dodgy about that - they are an American Company by the way.

Get it whilst you can though, at some point they will increase their rates again, probably be looking for another insurer at renewal but so what.

We went with 123.ie/Travellers as well -- there are a couple of caveats with their cover, but I was prepared to cope with them:
    1. *any* change of details means an admin fee (e.g. change address, change car, etc.)
    2. Their breakdown cover isn't great -- they seem to use a fairly small company for callouts, so if you pick a bad time you'll be waiting awhile (I had to wait two hours on a Sunday afternoon -- fortunately I was at home at the time!)
    3. The glass cover is max once per year if I recall correctly, though if you break your windscreen more than once a year, I'd be wondering what you were driving into :D

I used to be with Hibernian, and when I told them what quote I was given from 123.ie (about €200 less than what they wanted), they just said "remember us when you renew next year, as we can't come anywhere near that!"

Ring them up. I got insured through insure.ie for my car last year and they beat their online quote by quite a bit when I rang them.

Am with 123.ie and travellers. Bought another car and they charged €40 !!!! fee to transfer insurance. Confirmed no change to premium just admin fee to forward details to Travellers. Completely over the top for 5 minutes work.

It would have been interesting to see how long they would have persisted with the €40 charge if you had said to them you were going to cancel your policy and go with someone else if they didnt drop the fee.

Totally ridiculous for changing a policy; Ive had 4 cars now and have never been charged to change my policy.

has anyone here their insurance with 123.ie?

I'm getting a good quote on their online system and thinking of going with them. anybody with good/bad experiences of them??

good, they are underwritten by Travellers.

had no problems to report of during 2 years there.

At the moment using their online quote system i'm being quoted €160 cheaper than what my current insurer is looking for next month when policy is up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,237 ✭✭✭✭djimi

Just be warned from my experience they dont honor their quotes from one day to the next. If you get a quote from them today do not buy the car on the expectation that they will honor it a few days later. I got badly burned by them last year with this...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 876 ✭✭✭Randyleprechaun

I have house insurance with them and if you tell them that you have a better quote than theirs, they will always drop to the lower quote. don't know if they'll do this for car insurance but worth a try!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,216 ✭✭✭✭listermint

Im with them now. No issues! Great quote.

Changed over to them last year from Allianz and will never touch them again, bought a 2nd car and was to collect it that day but they wouldn't transfer my insurance which is fully comp onto it in order for me to drive it home:mad:They said the car had to have insurance on it by previous owner and wanted the owners policy no: as the owner rightly cancelled his insurance 123 would not cover me.Never came across this before as I have on a few occasions transfered my insurance by a phone call.I had to drive the car back from Meath with no insurance on it and its something I will remember was afraid of been stopped it was my only choice.I now have my own car for sale and cant cancel my insurance unless I do it in writing and pay an admin fee which takes a week or more.I will never touch that company again.

I have never heard of a car needing to have an existing policy for you to change your own policy to it. In fact Im not even sure if its possible to have two insurance policies active on the same car. Are you sure they didnt think you wanted to drive the car on your existing policy (ie with the insurance still on your old car)?

You didnt have to drive the car back from Meath uninsured btw. It would have cost less to have it put on the back of a truck then it would have cost had you been stopped by the guards...
