Up coming Channel Rebranding's - UPC EPG Update?

So VH1 Classic will become MTV Classic from March 1st.

Any bets on how long it will take UPC to notice and update this on the EPG?

My guess is at least 2 months

Also Sky Movies Drama will become Sky Movies Drama & Romance
Sky Movies Action/Thriller will become Sky Movies Action & Adventure on the 26th of March.

SciFi is to rebrand to SyFy (what genius came up with this name?) on April 13th .

Highly doubt UPC are aware of this either and give them 2 months to figure it out unless they are lurking on the forum ;)

I'm also quite aggravated that not only is the UPC EPG a mess, but there is no consistency in the way channel names are types. Film Four is the worst of them all. The main channel and the time shifter are typed up as to separate and different channels

Will these name changes make any DVR recordings using the old names unplayable? I believe this happened with Channel 6 and Paramount Comedy when they changed names.

Also I don't understand why they changed "Comedy Central" to just "Comedy" in the EPG

That was really strange. I remember it said "Comedy Central" for the first day or so when it changed from Parmount, and then it changed to "Comedy". So stupid, especially since several channels have longer EPG names (UPC seem to have some thing about long names)

And OP, you might wanna get your facts straight (I don't mean that aggresively, I mean it literally). All recent name changes have been correctly updated in the EPG usually on the day they occured (I know NTL were ****e about doing that). An exception to this has been "immaterial" changes, such as "Sky One" to "Sky1" which hasn't been updated. Though as you mentioned, they haven't updated "legacy" names such as Film4. It's not like it would take a lot of effort, and it would look so much more professional if they fixed them.

Though, given current DVR issues of recordings not working when names are changed, I can see why they don't bother with immaterial ones like Sky1 and MTV2 to MTV Two. Given UPC's recent record, I imagine the DVR-issues are why they don't update legacy names - it wouldn't be worth the frustration caused to customers.

Strange as it doesn't seem to effect Sky+ boxes when there are name changes or even when channels close down

What is it Sky can with their DVR that UPC can't?

It doesn't make sense that they can't change channel names without losing the link to DVR recordings made using the old names. There must be some other unique identifier (e.g. some ID number different from the channel number) in their system for every channel. Either they are doing the name changes arseways or their encryption/channel database system is seriously broken.

Oh I never claimed it made sense. That's just the way it is. They need to sort that before they can start doing trivial renames

Today we saw three rebrands: MTV ROCKS, MTV CLASSIC and MTV SHOWS. EPG still the same.....

The channel names have changed here in Dublin. Can't argue that it was not done in timely fashion.

They even acknowledge it on channel 100's interactive feed. As I said, UPC are on the ball (except the stupid thing about the recordings)
