Without sounding like a smartarse, you are aware its a gay bar right? its toilets are also mixed, so you'd be sharing toilet space with women (or men, not sure which you are)

Its a nice enough place alright though

Nice try, I fell for that once before, never again. The shocked face on the woman as she exited the cubicle will stay with me forever.

the last time i was in a gay bar with my ex i was asked to leave because the bar man told me im clearly not gay.............................. was kinda insulting to be honest. i was there with mates who where.

but now that im single it would be kinda pointless or confusing for my mates if i started going to gay bars.

im not a biggot are anything i just have no use for a gay bar when im looking for women:D

Thats a bit strange - wouldnt have thought it would have been an issue unless you were doing something wrong.

Wouldnt go there if i was with mates (as you have said, whats the point) but went with my gf and her friends so didnt think much of it. None of the gays had any problems with me being there. Neither did the bar staff.

well i was there with the GF(at the time) and a few of our gay mates......................... that was the strangest part. and i dont exactly look like a scumbag or anything so it was kinda weird

I have to say, that was the worst night out I've had in such a long time. I didnt realise this was a gay bar at all. Now ive been in gay bars before with friends and i genuinely have no problem with the fact that it is a gay bar.

I realised that it was after a few minutes inside. (Nice place b.t.w.) As we were sitting down with our drinks I was approached by two men.

Imagine the shock I got when I was told "GO WAY YOU FU*KIN STRAIGHT BEFORE YOU GET YOUR SH*T PUSHED IN BY THE FILTHIEST QUEEN IN LIMERICK":eek::eek:

I literally got up and left straight away. Im not saying anything bad about the bar itself because i was genuinely enjoying myself up until the incident. But I have never been spoken to like that before. I almost had a vom scare i felt so sick:(

What one earth has that got to do with equal rights? there are just as many drunk asshole gay guys as drunk asshole straight guys in pubs and clubs , Im sure any woman could tell you shes had some drunk letch say something filthy to her in a club

I went in there and I found all the guys in there very helpfull and accomadating, if you catch my drift.

so glad i dont have to go to angel "lame" anymore scouring the floors for a whiff of a gay.

angel "lame" has to have the worst layout of any club in ireland.. it has more twists and turns then a john grisham novel.

Speaking as a completely 100% hetrosexual guy, who has spent some time working in nightclubs that were gay on certain nights of the week, I can say that there is no need to be self concious, or afraid if in a gay club.

Is there a chance that someone will hit on you?
    Yeah, if you seem available.

    Will they accept no?
    Yes of course!
Same as most straight people will.
Women having drunk men hitting on them in clubs have a much harder time.

Will there be assholes acting like idiots?
Could be, the exact same way as there will be in any nightclub, gay or straight.

It really is as simple as if you act all self concious and paranoid, you will stand out like a sore thumb, and will draw attention.

Don't go to a gay nightclub just to have a craic, or to say you've been or anything like that.
But if you are going with some friends or anything, just act like you normally would on a night out with friends.

    It's just a nightclub afterall!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,361 ✭✭✭Itsdacraic

You'd swear the way some people went on here that "gay nightclub" is a cover name for homosexual orgy.
It's not. It's just a nightclub with gay people.

im not sure i like the homophobic turn that this thread seems to be taking..

this is a small town stereotypical attitude that i thought was left back in the 1950's but clearly it still lives on through a small percentage of the populace...

    Point out the homophobia.

i dont think thats an appropriate comment for a moderator to make, read the forum rules and give yourself an infraction.

im sick of know-it-all mods on board websites with double standards and blantant favourtism towards posters that have been online longer.

    :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

    http://www.glen.ie/
I'm not a mod on the Limerick forum. Neither are you, beware back-seat modding.
what are you sick of, you've been here two posts. this IS your first account right?!

"Its just going to be so gorgeously dinky and ab fab that it will feel much later than it actually is Honey!!!!! "

    "behave :D"

this is clearly playing on the stereotype of the gay man.

Lampooning does not equal homophobia. If that was the case Graham Norton would be the most homophobic person on the planet.

If I put on an italian accent and say "Mamma Mia" when I get a pizza, does that make me a racist?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,097 ✭✭✭✭zuroph

ive blogged on other sites too and ive found that there are certain mods all over the web that think there untouchable and seem to think that they can come out with all sorts of drivvle and get away with it. i dont think blatant homophobia even if it is just one post from you, should be acceptable on any website, and espicially from moderators who are, like it or not, meant to set an example of acceptable behaviour on forums.
Sure, I'm a total queer basher. :pac:
    you don't know me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,361 ✭✭✭Itsdacraic

just in the same way that black pple are entitled to use the n word, does that mean there racist against themselves? kinda rips your Graham Norton arguement to shreds.

everything should be taken into context. in the context of this forum which is basically a discussion about a gay nightclub i dont think its one bit appropriate to leave smarmy remarks that add nothing to the conversation.

another question in the same tone that you seem to enjoy using to back up yOur homophobia: "if i went into cocoon and said 'oh behave' to the gay bartender would i be being homophobic??" the answer is yes. YES YOU WOULD.

Homophobia: : irrational fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against homosexuality or homosexuals

Pick out any of that in any of the posts above please?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,398 ✭✭✭whatdoicare

All homophobic claims and other stuff aside, is it actually any good? A friend is trying to convince me to host my hen night there- I'm very dubious about bringing my mammy and mammy in law here....

we can all copy and paste definitions itsdacraic

have a look at this one and see if it fits the above posts i think you'll find it does:

"Homophobia is a term for a range of negative attitudes and feelings towards homosexuality and people identified or perceived as being homosexual. Definitions[1][2][3] of the term refer variably to antipathy, contempt, prejudice, aversion, and irrational fear. Homophobia is observable in critical and hostile behavior such as discrimination[1][2] mocking, lampooning or violence on the basis of a non-heterosexual orientation. "

Ive put bits that are particularly relevant to this thread in italics, just so its really clear.

do you have any idea what gay people have to put up with?? do you have any of the courage it takes to come out to your family and friends, in fear of them disowning you?

You seriously need to get a grip.
The only homophobia mentioned on this thread was when two gay guys threatened "a straight".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,398 ✭✭✭whatdoicare

yeah its actually really nice place. a safe-haven for men like me tbh. very friendly non-judgemental crowd, although i have heard stories of extremely aggressive homosexuals approaching men and being quite crude but you'd get that anywhere really.:):):):)/:) (4 outta 5 smilies)

I'll assume though that cocoon wouldn't be suitable for mammies and middle aged ladies (and rowdy hens :P)
