What does the invitation ask you to wear? Formal? Black Tie? Smart Casual?

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

    From trinityball.ie:
    1. Is this a black-tie event?
Yes, it is a black-tie event. Patrons dressed inappropriately will be refused admission.

If I paid that money for that event I think I'd feel entitled to wear the suit you've described (though I'd probably choose a different colour tie :)). But rules is rules so maybe you need to get yourself one of those silly outfits...

Hopefully some Trinity student can tell you how strict they are.
