    Selected the 21.5 inch one:

    http://store.apple.com/ie/configure/MB950B/A?mco=MTM3NDc3MDM

    Quick question:

Is it possible to upgrade the processor and memory in the future?

I'm getting it for photography purposes and will need a computer that is good and fast with image editing etc.

    Thanks.

I use the iMac 24" for all photo editing, works a treat and is very very fast!

    Thanks guys.

So will that processor be enough? I don't want to get it and then realise in a year's time that maybe I should have forked out the extra 200 quid.

Oh and I don't see the 24" on that page for some reason? :S

    Thanks guys.

the 3.33Ghz is €180 more than the 3.06Ghz. That is 8.8% of an increase in speed for 16.4% increase in price. As Apple pricing goes in relation to processors, that's pretty damn good, some Mac Pro's I've looked at have been and 8% speed increase for 25% price (or there abouts).

Generally I suggest to people to get the best processor that their current budget will allow as this is either very difficult or impossible to upgrade, and certainly not for someone with an iMac with little or now experience inside iMac's (i'm assuming you don't). Even the Mac Pro's are pretty hard, never mind the price of them.

It comes with 4GB of ram. It has 8 slots so i reckon you should add an extra 4GB (2x2GB sticks) from a third party vendor (Do not buy ram, Hard drives* etc from Apple) if/ when the budget allows. They're not that expensive from places like komplett.ie or ebay if you're good at finding reputable sellers. Just make sure you're getting the right stuff, check back here if in doubt. The extra Ram will do wonders for image editting, especially if you use photoshop of other CS app's.

    * The iMac HD is not user upgradable so you should pick the one you will want for the life of the machine. Bear in mind you can get externals also. The reason I say don't buy HD's from Apple is mainly for configuring Mac Pro's when you can choose drives for each bay. I think I've seen HD's floating about their online store on there own also though. They are extortionately expensive compared to places like the one mentioned above.

Stretch to the 24" if you can, the real-estate is incredible. I'm on one now and I'll never go back to a smaller screen, although I'd never buy an iMac, Mac Pro's are the way forward.

Cheers for all of that, will take it on board.

Can you point me to the 24"? I can't seem to find it on there.

Which Mac Pro did you get, the one for over 2k?

All the iMacs are here. the two on the right are the 24" models.

Must have been a bit of confusion, I don't actually own a Mac Pro (yet!!). I know I said I'd never buy an iMac, which I won't, but I got one for free from apple so i'll use it! When it needs to be replaced it'll be a mac pro and an apple display.

Having said that, I work with Mac Pro's on a daily basis and. The are incredible. All the new Pro's are over €2000! They are much nicer in terms of upgradability and expansion. They are also way fast than my 2.8ghz dual core iMac!! Post back how you get on or if you need any help!

Ah cool, will do. I was just confused as the only model I could see was the 27". Unfortunately, finance is restricting me from going for that one :)

When it says "Ships within 24 hours", how long does it actually take to deliver? It's a little bit vague, that's all.

The previous generation iMacs were 20" and 24", these were replaced last October with new 16:9 ratio screens that are now 21.5" and 27".

Ye finance gets us all :p just get the best you can afford, you'll be happy with whatever one you get! It's not windowz :D just check back about what I said about processors and HD's as that's really important with iMacs

it should leave there depot within 24 hours. That could be Singapore, the Netherlands or whatever other country the system likes on the day :p once it ships it should take 3 or 4 days. It gives an estimated delivery date but I find it generally beats that! But it could be longer.
