    Hi

I have an Audi A4 2003 Saloon, For the last few weeks i notice a noise coming from the diver side wheel. Especilly when you are out on the motorway doing 60 -70 mph there is a slight noise, almost sounds like a semi flat tire noise coming from the wheel, and if you turn to the left at high speeds it gets a bit louder.

I jacked the wheel, it i hear this very light tipping noise coming behind the wheel.its a very gently tipping noise. would remind u of a cable tie rubbing of the spokes of a bicycle wheel :-) , i think it could be coming from the drive but im not 100% sure. I brought it into Mike Moores in athlone he had a very quick luck wasnt sure what the noise was coming from. The cv boot cover is intact. But might pull it off and c can i see anything.

Has anyone seen a fault like this before in an audi. or have any suggestions.

Your CV joint could be gone but you would probably only notice it at low speed.
How to check this:Bring your car to a wide open space.Lock the steering wheel and take off slowly with the window down.If you hear a knocking sound it's your CV joint.
Other than that it could be a bearing?

    Wheel bearing maybe.

If you jack up the car (securely) - place your hands at 12 and 6 and see if you can rock the wheel. Any play can mean the wheel bearing is on the way out.

Might be that the ABS on that wheel is faulty. The same noises were in my friends car and it turned out to be the ABS on that wheel. It was a Nissan Primera though.

I dont think its the abs. as it makes the noise once the car is jacked(Key out of iginition) and you spin the wheel with your hand.

Will have a look at it this weekend, see can i see something, Its more annoying than anything else :-):), Grrrr

    Hi Guys,

Talking to the Mechanic about this problem, It seems its the Wheel bearing is going on the drivers side.

So will replace the bearing and see how it goes from there :-).

    110 Quoted for a wheel bearing :-(

    Thanks guys

Audi A4's are notorious for wheel bearing going at 60K+ miles. I would recommend that you get both done as if one has gone the other will be on the way. Also, the bearings are fairly cheap, about €30 from otto, and not that difficult to fit, although you do need a press so it might not be much more to do both rather than just one.
